You can't actually be strong forever. Subconsciously, Vincenzo has been well aware of that for a good while and he's known that it was going to have to happen soon. He hasn't had time for it, though. There are more important things than his mental health (so he says) and so he hasn't let himself fall to pieces

*her first reaction will be to flinch, though faintly and she'll hold it back as much she can, but it's really amazing how much that hurts her to see -- so it'll take her a moment to kneel next to him, suddenly anxiously wondering if it'd be all right to offer some gesture of comfort or not -- and she won't say anything yet, she'll just watch, not noticing she's chewing on her lower lip in worry*

*he is, at least, still aware of his surroundings, which means he'll very quickly notice her there and attempt (and fail) to stop crying -- he'll manage to contain the sobs, though, and she'll get a shaky half-smile, because even breaking down, he's happy to see her* I'm sorry.

I shouldn't -- *there are a few ways he could finish that -- shouldn't be so weak, so pathetic, breaking where she has to see -- but he'll just gesture rather helplessly instead*

*she, on the other hand, will have absolutely no reservations about sitting next to him and hugging him right away, because honestly, she's been wondering when this was coming and is kind of relieved to see it despite how much it hurts*
