You can't actually be strong forever. Subconsciously, Vincenzo has been well aware of that for a good while and he's known that it was going to have to happen soon. He hasn't had time for it, though. There are more important things than his mental health (so he says) and so he hasn't let himself fall to pieces.
But eventually, something was going to have to change -- and now it has.
