So, I had on the Game Show Network the other day. (I was taping something for my mom because her cable was out and it was gonna be a couple days till they'd get a guy out to her house, and she didn't want to miss her shows. Really. I certainly don't watch cheesy game shows hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro. Seriously. I don't. Oh, hush up.) And! On ( Read more... )

Oh, LJ... It amuses me you think to put my own birthday on the Birthday List of my Inbox. I think I'll remember when it is, thank you, but it's kind of you to make sure.

*Chuckles* Oh, yes.

I seriously hate stumbling across Het in Slash fic, unawares and unwarned. Until the reverse is acceptable, don't tick me off, writers. I hold grudges.

Oh, I do so, so, so agree with you. I also hate it that a 'Gen' or 'fine for all' story can contain reference to a het relationship, but you certainly couldn't do that and make reference to a slash relationship.

In real life news, I'm excited Winter is almost here. We've actually even had some real winter temps and snow already! :-) This makes me happy. I'm a real cold weather animal. It always reenergizes me,*Nod and waves to a fellow cold animal person ( ... )

::nods:: It's one of the worst double standards in fandom. Personally, I like the three genre designations: Gen; Slash; Het. It's so easy to do and shows proper respect to all folks in fandom to use them, regardless of your own fic views. It's as simple as that.

::waves back:: We're fewer in number, methinks, but we're here!

I do hope your cats bring you much happiness.

Oh, I'm indeed enjoying them. The little girl is a bit of a terror, still being something of a kitten, but she's so sweet and affectionate. She had no problems settling in. My boy, not surprisingly, was more wary, but he's getting more comfortable and shows no interest in going back to being an outside kitty, which was a bit of a worry. So, relief there!

That is a lovely photograph of your dad. Thanks! It's one of my favorites of him ( ... )

It is indeed and for some reason it is also a blind spot for many people too. They just don't seem to get why it's wrong. And then there are those who have the view that one simple 'they were lovers' reference does not make a story slash or het but gen so it's okay to label it gen, and don't seem to understand that whilst they might think that other folk would be furious if they read a gen story where the men were referred to as lovers. Argh. It's one of my 'soap box' subjects. I too like the three genres and use them as you say it's respectful to everyone.

We're fewer in number, methinks, but we're here!I know quite a few cold weather besties, but yes, I think we are outnumbered. I saw a comment today on another friend's LJ about 'spring will soon be here' and I'm thinking, no, no ( ... )

What gets me is when slashers do it, because we're the ones who are the "victims," as it were, of the double standard and should know better. But, seriously, I don't know how many slash fics I've read where the author had another slash pairing, or more, in a fic and only listed the main one. (They're all slash, after all, so what does it matter? Urgh. Well, y'know, I don't read or even want to read all slash pairings, purely by virute of their being slash. Urgh, again.) It happens in SG-1 a lot. Then, we won't even discuss the number of MFU slash fics that include Het, unwarned!

I saw a comment today on another friend's LJ about 'spring will soon be here' and I'm thinking, no, no, let's have winter first.Argh, I hate that kind of stuff! There's just this sense of entitlement on some folks' parts that it's okay to knock winter, even natural, because who likes winter anyway?? Talk about blindspots. There' ( ... )
