[ Thank God for Wonder Twin Powers.Kirk had only stopped by his quarters long enough to disregard the golden command shirt and black pants for jeans and a white shirt. Normally he would have taken the time to fold the shirt into it's respective manner... but he wasn't in any frame of mind to do so now. Really he wasn't in the mind set to do ( Read more... )

[ she'd heard the news, had seen the log and knew what it meant. locating him hadn't been a problem and the setting seemed... predictable. she didn't have to imagine how he felt, she'd felt the same far too many times for her liking ]

Would you rather be alone?

No, no... feel free to take a seat, Captain.

[ he hoped she didn't mind if he was an informal selfish bastard at the moment. he played enough faces for his crew. he didn't want to play them for anyone else right now. ]

[ she stepped further into the bar, taking a seat on one of the stools by him, declining the offer of a drink from whoever was manning the bar ]

How are you holding up?

[I'm going to the holodeck after the meeting. You're free to come along.

Jim had told him that after the conference of their crew. It was an illogical place to go after everything that had happened to their crew, but he needed to talk to him after what occurred on the Observation Deck. Only Jim would be able to do this for him. He was their friend and always would be. Nothing would change. Ever.]

Jim.

[He did not recognize the simulation he stumbled into. He never would. Too Terran for his liking; far too... McCoy shook his head. He lacked a word to describe it. But there he was, sitting at the bar, slamming that poison deafeningly against the top.]

Bones.

[ The voice that returned the gesture was nothing more than a shaky and broken attempt at speaking. He didn't look up at his friend. One hand was covering his eyes, the other clenching the glass. He tried to even his breathing. It wasn't working. ]

[McCoy was conflicted as he stumbled further into the holodeck, brushing against the various simulation of people he did not recognize, as he tried desperately to fight against what that hallucination had told him. No, it was real. He was his... safeguard? Yes, he had told him that. No. He was losing his mind as he spoke in a soft, unnatural voice unlike his own.]

You must get them all home. You cannot break.

[Jim would not look at him. Why. Why]

Yeah, I know. I know, Bones.

[ It wasn't what he wanted to be hearing right now. His palm rubbed against his eyes before he lowered his head into his hand again. He took another drink of his beverage before slamming it down on the bar again. So hard it echoed. Only a few of the simulated people looked up before returning to their drinks. ]

I know every fucking second of every fucking day I need to get them home. Me because I'm the god damn Captain. But right now? I'm not. I'm just Jim.

No. It's fine... one less Uhura than I remember, but...

[ he turned to his twin and offered up a smile. well, the best one he could muster. about just as good as when ambassador spock refused to join him on the enterprise. sometimes he was thankful for his twin being... well, a twin. always knew what to talk about and what not to. hell his twin probably already understood how he felt. ]

[ there was a small wry chuckle that came out on that. he looked over at his twin. ]

Uhura already beat the shit out of me. [ a gesture to his face where the red mark was from the slap. ] I'd love to see Cupcake get reamed with Pike in a wheelchair.

[ captain picard had informed her of what had happened. it had been tragic, and surprising and when he'd passed her in the corridor she'd felt his pain. she thought as she turned to follow him, choosing her words carefully

when the holosuite changed from the deck to the bar she took a moment to look around, letting him settle as she found herself. she wasn't familiar with this place, but she could at least decifer that it was a bar on earth - she'd seen one similar before. and then she turned back to him. he'd ordered a drink, but the pain... the pain was evident in his actions, but more than what she'd have expected from losing a crewmember. she knew this history of captain kirk and his missions with the enterprise, but this wasn't the same man from that time. but obviously, some things had stayed the same ]

Captain Kirk? My name's Deanna Troi, I'm from Captain Picard's crew.

Captain Picard's?

[ he turned to look at her as she said that. she was very beautiful, and certainly held the air of someone that had been under picard. he stood a little, offering her to sit with him. anyone under picard had an automatic respect from him. in order to serve with a great man you had to be great yourself.

eventually he sat back down and looked at her. throwing it all behind a mask. kirk didn't fall apart in front of others. especially not a starfleet officer, or a woman. he glanced around the bar with a small sigh before addressing her again. ]

Riverside, Iowa... on Earth. The place where I first met the then Captain Pike. They were building the Enterprise here in memory of my Dad.

He must have been a great man for them to give him that honour.

[ she took the seat beside him cause janeways clearly vacated it now, giving a curious look at his drink before looking back at him. at least it wasn't tequila ]

[ kirk wasn't very fond of tequila. burned too much when it went down. he preferred the light stuff at a time like that. buzzed, but still able to be lucid enough to have a conversation if someone came along. much different from when he first began drinking. ]

Saved eight-hundred lives in twelve minutes... died doing it though. Regular old Starfleet Hero.

[ he tipped the glass up to an invisible force before taking a drink. he hated that his father was taken away from him. that nero was so angry at spock he killed his father and other crew members. that now with spock gone, he felt like the lonely kid from iowa. ]

[Pike figured it was only a matter of time before Kirk wound up in some bar or other, considering what happened to Spock. Though he didn't expect it to be a holographic reproduction of the Riverside, Iowa Bar he picked Jim up in three years and what felt like an entire lifetime ago.

He ordered a Scotch and sat at a table near Kirk, the counter was too high for him to reach in his current state]

Jim?

A-Admiral, sir.

[ Kirk stood instantly then remembered their earlier conversation. The tension eased from his body as he made is way over to the table to sit with the Admiral. Well, this is pretty damn familiar. Wonder if he still whistles really loud. he thought to himself. ]

[He does whistle that loud, but he has no reason to at the moment. Pike looked concerned for Kirk, he knows how hard it is to lose crew, worse if it's a friend of yours]

How are you doing?

Well enough to give instructions to my crew then come here and get drunk. Which... by all accounts means "not that good."
