> Ignorance is the parent of fear [Bones | Sickbay | Open]

[McCoy was in Northern Sickbay, where he had been for the duration of this epidemic, but the vast crowd of patients seemed to be thinning out. With this many white coats you think someone would have stopped them leaving, he thinks in mild annoyance as he looks over another PADD ( Read more... )

[Once he had been able to stand and walk, Spock had sought a place as far from the main sickbay area as he could. The light was less bright. There were less people to observe, and disturb his rest. Sleep, though, was not coming easily. He shifted onto his right side, pulling the blanket over his lean frame even though he was not in need of more physical warmth.]

[McCoy had made sure to keep a vigilant watch over the crew hailing from Fifty-Eight. He had told Jim himself that their Spock and Uhura seemed the worse off for this thing, although his counterpart was not exhibiting the same symptoms as they were. Spock had become more withdrawn after rousing from sedation and McCoy wandered over to see how he was doing now, monitoring his condition with a tricorder as the half-Vulcan pulled the blanket over him.]

[Without his usual sensitivity of hearing, Spock was not alerted to Bones' approach until he was almost hovering over him, and a vague shadow moved on the wall nearby. Momentarily startled, he twisted to see who it was who had found him. It was not whom he had hoped.]

[McCoy notices that Spock seemed distressed by his approach and shrugs his shoulders apologetically as he lowers his tricorder.]

Sorry.

[Even if the Vulcan was not a lip reader, maybe he was bright enough to at least get that as he examines the gauzes on his ears.]

[ as she had intended earlier, seven made her way to sickbay, aware of the flutter of wings in her wake, but doing her best to focus on her path rather than the sound of those dark feathers brushing against the air. upon entering, she ignored the stares -- both those that were appreciating her form and in shock and wonder by the sight of the ocular implant inside her blonde waves and the hand encased in borg augmentation. she'd learned to ignore such looks long ago back on voyager. they no longer affected her. instead, she made a b-line for the individual she knew to be doctor mccoy, but was unaware of which one this was. well, that could be remedied. ]

Are you the Doctor McCoy of Stardate 2258.50?

[McCoy had been occupying himself with writing down the medical conditions in caused by the creature orbiting the station in his CMO log and craned his head at the call of his name from an unfamiliar voice. He recognized the woman as someone he had passed briefly in the hallways of the station, but not someone he was truly acquainted with and he put the PADD down and leant back in his chair, regarding her with an air of suspicion and curiosity.]

That's right. Can I help you?

[ seven clasped her hands together and tilted her head to the side a bit in what any of her crew would note as true seven fashion. ]

According to the information I have assimilated, you are responsible for the genetic identification tags that are being to properly separate the multiple versions of persons stranded on this station. I must inform you that there is now a James Kirk and Nyota Uhura of stardate 2255 present; recently arrived.

[McCoy rubs the side of his face as she informs him about the new arrivals. Although it feels more like a lecture, he does a double take at the Stardate.]

My God, more of them?

[ Kirk watched the people leave Sickbay. His eyes went to Bones - were they alowed to do that? ]

[McCoy notices that look directed at him from Kirk and drums his fingers on the desk before grumbling in defeat.]

Like I can stop them.

Are they, I think the technical turn is, better?

[ He just raised his eyebrows at the disgruntled look. Always a doctor. ]

The ones that can leave are in no danger of collapsing, if that's what you mean. It's not a pandemic like we first believed... not a damn thing any medicine can do.

[He had remained in sickbay at the request (more order really), but he was doing more wandering than lying down. It seemed that pacing helped some, though he still heard everything.

He was currently occupied considering the possibility that his alternate had mentioned, of tracing the harmonics. He seemed to be very absorbed in his thoughts, though he had not lost his hearing, so it was doubtful that he didn't hear everything else that was going on around him.

Even so, he felt like he had to do something. He couldn't just lie there.]

[McCoy noticed that Spock refused to stay on his assigned bioped and chose to putter around Sickbay instead of recovering, but McCoy was content to continue his own research while he did so and scrolled through the PADD although he was not really paying attention anymore.

Maybe he could have concentred better if he had not spoken to Jim about the state of the Vulcan before he returned him to Sickbay and he felt guilt gnaw away in his gut. Damn it, Spock.]

[He continued his pacing, more out of habit now than anything. Eventually, though, he stopped and stood for a few moments, shaking his head slightly. He issued a soft word to nothing before he continued.]

No.

[Okay, this is enough. McCoy throws his notes down and calls out to the Vulcan.]

Spock. Sit down.

[ Jimena's just popping back into sickbay for a moment-- she's going to be avoiding this place like the plague for a while-- when she spots Bones. She walks over with a somewhat cautious look on her face. It's an odd look for her, but Bones is likely stressed and she did run away from sickbay. ]

So should I come back later, or do you want to do the "quit running away from doctors" speech now?

[McCoy looks up at Jimena from his workspace and narrows his eyes at her.]

I'll lecture you in a minute. How are you feeling?

I'm doing fine, apart from a headache. Not hallucinating any more. Of course, I've had a pretty good distraction.

How are you holding up? Any idea what's causing this?

I'm glad to hear it. But if you run out of Sickbay again, you're getting restrained next time you're in here. No room is discussion. I nearly lost my wits when I saw you gone.

[McCoy sighs.]

Yeah, we've found out what is causing all this.
