Summary: Greg usually lets Nick borrow any movie he wants, but there is a reason he can’t borrow one particular one.

Nick Stokes flipped through the pages of the DVD album. A movie caught his eye, “Can I borrow this one?”

Greg Sanders dumped the stuff he had just taken off the couch into the closet. He closed the door, and wandered over where Nick was sitting on the ground. He peered over Nick’s shoulder and realized it was Kill Bill Vol. 1. Greg couldn’t remember which volume had the scene where someone was buried alive. “Nope,” he answered. Greg hoped his answer didn’t sound like he was protecting Nick.

“No? Why Not?” Nick was confused. Greg usually just briefly looked at the tiles to see what it was so he could make a mental note of not looking for it later. Greg had never told him no before.

“You don’t want to watch it; it’s not one of Tarantino’s best.” Greg went over and slumped on the now clean couch.

Nick picked up the album, and the one underneath it, and sat down next to Greg on the couch. Nick put his feet on the coffee table, and set the DVD albums in his lap. “You’ve never told me no,” He gave Greg a puppy dog pout.

Greg reached over and flipped the page, “You can’t borrow Vol. 1 or Vol. 2.” He ruffled Nick’s hair.

“Why not?” Nick arched an eyebrow confused. “You usually just borrow whatever I want. Don’t you love me?”

Greg punched him playfully. “Don’t be like that. There is a reason you can’t borrow it, and I am not going to tell you. You’ll just get mad.”

“Come on; when I have ever been mad at you over something stupid like a DVD. I just want to know, why.”

Greg sighed, “Okay, fine, I will tell you the reason, but you better not yell at me. One of the volumes has a scene where the Bride gets buried in a grave.”

“Oh,” Nick said quietly. “I forgot I have to call my parents, and you know how that can get an all day thing, I’ll see you later.” He fumbled. He set the DVD albums on the couch, and absentmindedly kissed Greg on the cheek before heading out of the apartment.

Nick usually wasn’t one to lie to his significant other, at least not about having to call his parents. He might have actually called them later today, if they weren’t out of town visiting one of his brothers, but it wasn’t like he really had set days to call them besides the major holidays and birthdays. Nick had a feeling that Greg probably knew he was lying.

Nick checked the clock, and did a little mental calculation. He had time to get a beer and it to be out of his system before he went to work later tonight.

He opened his fridge, and pulled out a cold beer. He pressed it to his forehead for a second, before he popped lid off. He tossed the lid in the trash, and took a long sip from the beer.

He closed his eyes for a brief second, and an image of pounding on the plastic casket entered his thoughts. He opened his eyes, and the image disappeared for the second it took to make it into his living room.

Nick slumped into his Lazy Boy, trying not to think about it as he flipped on the television. He roamed through the channels, landing on a basketball game. Maybe if he got into the game he could get his mind off of this.

Nick thought he had gotten over it, but he realized he obviously hadn’t gotten over the incident completely. Maybe his mistake was thinking that he was over it, when maybe he should have realized you can’t completely get over something like that. He had to grow and move past it.

He knew Greg hadn’t meant any harm by shielding him from watching the movie. Greg was just trying to look out for him.

Nick picked up the phone off the table next to the chair. He hit one on speed dial.

A few seconds later, Greg picked up the phone. “Hey Babe.” His voice was filled with concern.

“Hey, I forgot my parents were out of town. Why don’t you come over?” Nick knew Greg would come over, and hopefully it would help Nick feel less angsty.

“You want me to bring anything?”

“How about some chocolate ice cream?”

“Sounds like a plan,” Nick was sure Greg was already looking for his keys, “I’ll see you in a few minutes.”

“See ya soon.” They both hung up the phone. Nick put the phone back on the receiver. He turned to the game, and watched it, waiting for his boyfriend to come over.
