Wow, look - Saturday's post already!

I believe I just took two classes on Saturday - Heirloom Sewing Techniques, and Tailor's Canvas. Both were super useful and informative, and taught me a lot of techniques that I had no knowledge of previously. Now I just have to find the patience in my sewing to actually utilize them.

I feel like I made almost nothing this year. I honestly think I did too much theatre for one year, and the past few months, I've just felt very worn out. That, combined with working all year (instead of being unemployed for 8 months like I was last year) means very little sewing actually got done.

Port Townsend was lovely. I got up there about 3:30 on Friday, and met up with Val at the hotel. We went out to the antique stores in our muggle-wear, and though I was tempted by a ton, I was good and only bought a $5 vintage white eyelet apron. Then I changed into my skating dress, and we joined Mara for dinner.

I finished sewing the fur on the hem of the overskirt, and started on the fur trim on the skirt. And I'm almost halfway done with that ( Read more... )

Despite not having much sewing time today, I'm definitely feeling better now. Still stressed, but less so. The princess dress was finished and packaged up by the time I left for rehearsal. Clearly, the world knows I am desperately running out of sewing time before MN, because I got another princess order today. I'm getting really worried that I'm not going to finish my skating dress, and at the very least, I need to do that, make some sort of hat for it, and put the buttons/buttonholes on my quilted petticoat so that I can wear it ( Read more... )

My determination from a couple days ago didn't amount to much. I made both princess dresses today, and while I did assemble the bodice pieces of the skating dress, I didn't get a chance to try it on, or to set the sleeves, both of which I was hoping to do. I'm starting to get a little worried! I fly to MN a week from tomorrow night, and I have made very little progress on the skating dress. I finished cutting everything out yesterday, but it took forever, because I had to figure out how to drape the overskirt in about 1 yd of 54" wide fabric, and then make sure I could get the remaining four bodice ( Read more... )

The skating skirt is assembled, and is waiting on waistband, hem, and trimming, which is a whole bunch of pleats and as much fur as I can spare. I also finished cutting out the interlining of the bodice, and cut out all but two pieces of the bodice in the wool. I even cut the sleeves out! Remind me never to cut up a fur coat ever again. Seriously. I have fur in my nose, there was fur in my eyes, and after vacuuming my sewing table, I still wound up using half a lint roll getting it cleaned up. And after all that, I don't think I have nearly as much fur as I was hoping for the skating dress. Like, maybe half as much fur as I need. So ( Read more... )
