Oh, good. I'm especially glad to hear I wasn't way off with New Frontier, because it has, I realized while writing up this post, been the basis for a lot of my guesses at Firefly canon. (And I take it the one woman in Fix You is a human-looking Cylon? That was just a guess, but once I started viewing her as sort of an uber-Cylon with a weird fascination for humans, the whole vid fell into place, so I went with it.)

I believe we're supposed to understand it to be a part of the sharpening process -- testing the edge, maybe? In the scene, Jayne is cleaning and sharpening his various weapons, and otherwise getting all macho.

Yay TFV vid rec post! I love your description of BSG with the Army slogan because that's exactly the issue right there. And LoM truly is a vid based fandom and showed just how well vids can recruit people to watch a show. Including you :) At the moment, I know of seven videos, all of which are awesome including the two that you selected which won me over at VVC (one more week!!).

I still hold out hope for you to watch Firefly just because it's so amazing and not very long (sadly) and you already have a decent grasp of characters based upon your PERFECT names. I mean, River as Twitchy? Hahahaha sooo true. And Kaylee as Sunny Delight is adorable. Volunteer is so much of what the vid means to me as well, so much that in the big climax scene where the boot's drop down, I *hear* volunteer because that's when they finally stand up to volunteer and fight again and be the hero. And the motion is definitely very, very beautiful.

I've got ten, including six in my to-rec folder. I think that's the highest ratio of vids seen to to vids to be rec'd in any fandom that has more than two vids. Seriously, seriously awesome vids, this fandom makes. Even the ones I don't want to rec would be recommendable in any other fandom - it's just, the competition is so amazing that it's like there's a new standard for LoM vids.
