171: "I'm Lost in the Vids," Cried the Little Fox

Aug 03, 2007 09:45

So. Hi! I've been recovering from surgery for the past, um, two and a half weeks. (For the record: ouch. But my defective part is gone now, and I am supposed to be nearly as good as new, at least when the swelling goes away. In the meantime, I have drugs ( Read more... )

You are lucky to be filtering fandom through pain meds right now. I wish I could pop a couple of pills and pretend that shit isn't going down, I really do.

*makes a face of general disgust*

Vids are awesome. I love your names for the chicks in Firefly, they are dead-on.

*winces*

It's been bad, I take it? (Although I have to warn you, the side effects on these pills - you'd probably prefer fandom, however crazed.)

Oh, yay! And thank you! So good to hear, because, well, I could be wrong. Vids can only tell you so much about a person, you know? But apparently they can tell you enough to rename that person pretty successfully. (I'm happy that everyone seems to know who I meant with each name; I just realized I didn't actually provide a TFV-to-normal translation guide for those.)

Two people were permanently suspended for posting erotic fanart that showed minors in explicit sexual situations. Including ponderosa121, who's one of my favorite artists, so I'm a little bitter about that. People were kind of afraid this would happen after the lj_biz policy statement recently. I've kind of raged myself out over it, so right now I'm just "Ugh, again?"

No, Boob Queen is *perfect*. I will always be calling her that in my head, now.

Also, I can't believe I missed this on the first read but Tamagotchis. I had one of those! In maybe second grade (and WOW am I sort-of reversely dating myself here), so my memories are a bit fuzzy, but they were a blast. I would hatch it on the bus and then nurture the little pixelly blob all through math class. (Now I find calculus a source of entertainment and accomplishment. Ah, for the innocence of youth.)

Drat the timing. I gotta head out for work. But I gotta say this much.

You aren't the only one without cable tv. I do have a cable modem. Who needs to pay the extra $40-50 a month for what I can get with the modem? :)

Looking forward to checking out those vids.

(and your Firefly names? Made of awesome)

Thank god for fangirls, who make me feel like not such a crazy person. (Maybe the "Fireworks Prohibited by Law" sign when you come into our neighborhood also says "Everyone Here Has Cable" in much smaller print? That would explain Cable Selling Guy's reaction. Who knew you could strike fear into the heart of man by not having cable?)

Looking forward to checking out those vids.

They are built on a foundation of brilliance, from gorgeous bricks and stunning mortar, and then decorated with extra awesomeness. (In other words: I think you'll like them. I hope so, anyway. I love them so.)

I will give vids a try if you either start reading and reccing BSG or read my Firefly fic. You don't need to know any canon, it's short (1K-ish), and since it's my first fic and you're one of the fic experts fullstop, I'd love concrit on how to become a better writer.

Or I'll just be happy reading you write about vids. Either way. :P

I'm happy to try a concrit (i.e., beta-like, but I should warn you, I am a very talky beta-reader) reading of your Firefly story, but I don't know the canon or read any fan fiction for that fandom, and that means I don't know the voices, which is usually one of my big strengths as a reader. If you want it, though? Surely.

(Vid watching, of course, is optional, whether you say yes or no.)

Yes, yes, and yes to everything laurashapiro said. Including the hug part, which I've already warned you is coming with the force of a thousand squees.

Thank you so much for the strangefandom pimp! [bounces] Seriously, it wouldn't be the same without you. We are thrilled to have you onboard.

Yay! I will still need a warning slightly closer to the actual event, though.

Seriously, it wouldn't be the same without you. We are thrilled to have you onboard.

It is a ton of fun. I'm so glad you and SDW thought of it. (And I would bounce, too - I am enthusiastic enough - but OW.)

Tamagotchi (Does anyone else remember those?)

Oh my GOD. I had a baby girl Tamagotchi that scarred me for life because no matter how well taken care of it was, it always died every 24 hours. I was so depressed that I was obviously going to be a horrible mother (back when I was eight and this was still something I wanted), so my Mum actually made a bunch of tea and stayed up all fucking night, feeding and playing with the little bastard and it STILL died at 3 AM!

I should have sued the company for traumatizing my little child mind with their fault merchandise. *weeps*

ANYWAY! I have nothing to add really. You need to watch Firefly (I know you won't though), LoM has some of the best vids ever and I think I know why. I think something about John Simm (who plays Sam Tyler) is just inherently viddable. Nearly all LoM vids are great, even the mediocre ones and charmax's Doctor Who vid about John Simm's Master was the best DW vid I ever saw (and I have seen many). So John Simm = Patron Saint of Vidders.

Also, walks- no wait... SWAGGERS into ( ... )

*eyes LJ, which ate my last attempt to reply to this*

I had a baby girl Tamagotchi that scarred me for life because no matter how well taken care of it was, it always died every 24 hours.

Mine did fine until I dropped it on a tile bathroom floor. Then it just sat there, all dead. It was very sad.

I don't think I should be allowed to be a parent.

So John Simm = Patron Saint of Vidders.

You could well be right about this (although I totally did not know he played the Master!). Obviously, some brave vidder needs to check out his back catalog to test your theory. (I note, checking IMDb, that he played Caligula. Seriously? Caligula? Like, the Caligula? That is quite an unexpected casting.)

*waits for volunteers*

Also, walks- no wait... SWAGGERS into the bar from TMLitB = best editing bit in any vid ever, yes/no?

It could very well be. It is certainly AWESOME.
