171: "I'm Lost in the Vids," Cried the Little Fox

Aug 03, 2007 09:45

So. Hi! I've been recovering from surgery for the past, um, two and a half weeks. (For the record: ouch. But my defective part is gone now, and I am supposed to be nearly as good as new, at least when the swelling goes away. In the meantime, I have drugs ( Read more... )

Ok, first of all, for many years I did not have cable either. Then, for a year I did not have any TV AT ALL. And my husband and I watched DVDs. And I think we were much happier then, even when people stared at us like Aliens. (Oh yes, I know that look.)

Secondly, I need to get high-speed internet SO bad, just so I can watch these vids NOW.

Thirdly, I should really watch Life on Mars, huh? (I must watch canon. It's how I'm built.)

And lastly, but most importantly, I CANNOT believe that with everything you've said here you have not watched Firefly!! I... You're making a grave error. *brain implodes*

Oh yes, I know that look.

Sister! *bonds OMG*

I actually get it less now, because, thanks to fandom, I can at least nod along when someone mentions a TV show. Whereas before I used to say, "Um, Alias? No, never heard of it," and then I'd have to listen to an utterly bewildering hour-long explanation of the first season that left me numb with confusion and wondering if I was stuck in a bad acid trip.

Secondly, I need to get high-speed internet SO bad

You totally do! And you have cable, so - couldn't you get it with your cable package? *tempts*

I can't be trusted with Tamagotchis.

And yet? Go figure, I have raised a human child for 2+ years! I think the Tamagotchis just needed to be *louder* about their needs.

I have somewhat come to grips with this problem by renaming the girls for the other things that stand out for me, so they are "Twitchy," "Badass," "Boob Queen," and "Sunny Delight," but I can already hear all of fandom coming for me with pitchforks for that (Don't hurt me! I am sure Boob Queen is awesome for many things besides her boobs and grace and general regal bearing, but that's what I mostly see in vids, so...), so I will not even share with you what I've renamed the men. (Okay, fine. "Id," "Ego," "Superego," "Book," and "Wash." You'll notice that the last two did not actually need renaming, as they have distinctive hair. Sadly, those two are not in vids as much as Id, Ego, and Superego. What I want to know is, it's the future: couldn't one of the men dye his hair? Purple, say. Purple's nice.)

AHAHAhAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

And she's totally cute and hasn't mutated or anything! Go you!

I think the Tamagotchis just needed to be *louder* about their needs.

Or maybe slightly cuter and less plastic?

The wonderful thing is that I can tell who is who, just from that. 8-)

The really wonderful thing is that I can too, and I've never seen the show. I'm not even sure I've read any fic, apart from a couple of crossovers with fandoms I *do* read *g*.

Awesome post! And strangefandom is hilarious so far; I spotted one of your entries, TFV, I'm pretty sure *g*. That "native folkways" is a very *you* phrase.

Hee, I caught a couple of dueSouth vids after haveing read the fic without canon (long story) and I knew immediately which one was "Mountie" (color-coding helps) and which one was "experimental hair." The wolf was a gimmee.

"Sunny Delight" is particularly appropriate, isn't it?

I'm so glad, because, uh, I forgot to provide a TFV-to-human translation guide. Oops!

Thank you!

*beams at you* Thank you for the pimp for strangefandom! And for "Fix You," too, which you've pretty much hit dead-on so go team you!

I, too, love your names for the Firefly cast. Hee. They're shockingly apt.

And I don't know what it is about Life on Mars but, truly, the vids are unbelievably good. I've loved all the ones I've seen. There's a great one by someone that I can't remember right now, about Sam and his relation to his job. It's amazing.

I get a gold star! Um. If I actually had a gold star, which I don't, so we will consider it a metaphorical gold star.

cherryice's Devotion. WONDERFUL vid, and I'm not saying that just because I got to see an early draft. So damn gorgeous, and so very Sam.

I said, "We don't have cable." He just stood there, every line of his body clearly saying, "What? Who doesn't have cable?"

This is so reminiscent of when they installed data and cable lines in the dorms when I was in college. They didn't finish before the semester started - so they just went ahead and invaded our room every day, moved our shit around (never putting anything back), left brickdust and sawdust everywhere and generally disrupted our lives for two weeks. When they finally finished the tech guy (TG) put his tools away and turned to me:

TG: All done! If you show me your TV I'll help you hook up the cable!
Me: We don't have a TV.
TG: *blink*
TG: *blink blink*
TG: Oh...well if you show me your computers I'll show you how to connect the data line...
Me: We don't have a computer.
*awkward silence*
TG: Err. Ahem. I'll just get out of your way then...
Me: That would be nice.

"Id," "Ego," "Superego,"*Snort* Those have got to be the best nicknames for Jayne, Mal and Simon I've ever seen. And I knew exactly who you were ( ... )

Okay, I love that. Because after the bricks and the sawdust and everything, that's what I would have said, too, but I would have been thinking, "OH MY GOD, JUST GO AWAY." In all caps, just like that.

Those have got to be the best nicknames for Jayne, Mal and Simon I've ever seen. And I knew exactly who you were talking about with "Twitchy," "Badass," "Boob Queen," and "Sunny Delight." I'm going to refer to Kaylee as Sunny Delight from now on

Yay! (And I am so incredibly thrilled that everyone knows who I'm talking about when I say those names. I got them right! I would dance if, you know, not for the recent surgery thing.)
