Break was pleased with the situation. He'd finally cornered Ciel, and instead of bickering and denying that they'd ever met and summoning strangely-clad ill-tempered women, they'd managed to come to an agreement. A rematch, and either way Break got what he wanted. If he won then he would get a renewal of the contract he had made with the boy he used to know. If he lost, he would protect Ciel for three days, which would give him a second chance and allow him to absolve him of guilt, and then they could go their separate ways and be done with it. Besides, their first match had been interesting. He wouldn't dream of turning down a challenge from such a skilled opponent ( ... )

Ciel laughed off Break's remark about black suiting him better, more than willing to let Break go first. Everything about him exclaimed confidence, from the way he sat to the look on his face.

He was somewhat taken aback by the childish use of Emily as referee, but it occurred to him that he did talk to his doll on a regular basis, and that he did not seem to be the most mature adult he had ever met. He decided to indulge Break with only the quip, "Won't she be a bit of a biased referee?

"Anyway, it's your turn."

Hiroki tucked his folded cloak under him as he sat on the floor by Break and the young boy. Ciel. He couldn't help but feel more than a little annoyed with Break. How he had been something of a complete jerk towards the kid. But hey. He was curious. He'd seen chess being played once or twice, and it was always boring to him.

But this kid... The look in his eyes was pure confidence. He'd never known anyone who was that cocky at that age. Except for maybe Naoya, but he was too young to remember much. Naoya had always been just...so Naoya that there was no other way to describe it.

So he watched on the sidelines, resting his chin on his hand as he anticipated the start of the match. Could Break really beat a kid like this...?

Break couldn't care less if Hiroki was annoyed; it wasn't as if he'd asked to be followed, now was it? Besides, Ciel deserved a jerk to beat that arrogance out of him but this was really in his best interest. He couldn't even tie his own shoes, much less fend off multitudes of angry beasts and hungry ghosts. One could even say he was being charitable. The abuse was just his reward.

"Don't be rude, Emily is completely fair."

He began the setup for School's mate, just as he had last time. He wondered, if he played the same as he had the first time, would Ciel react the same? Ah-- come to think of it.

"Speaking of fair, shouldn't a game like this have something tangible at stake? Collateral, if you will. I wouldn't want you running off again if you lose." Not that the ring had stopped him from vanishing last time, but it was still a good idea. "Emily will be mine. Hiroki, would you do us the honour of holding onto her until the end of the match?"

Ciel was surprised as Break offered Emily into the deal. He responded by moving his pawn to mirror Break's and thought for a moment. "I don't have anything valuable with me, unless you can think of something you would want."

He couldn't blame Break for wanting some collateral. People so often go back on their word. They really aren't to be trusted. Honestly, collateral would make him feel better too. It would keep this nut case from going back on his word.
