my moma and i bought a house in 2004 and we had that basic dreaded drain problem of course in december...the drains and toilets and tubs would start to gurgle and fill with water and dirt...we had it snaked out twice and when they dug up where the pipe goes into the ground, who ever fixed it last time, patched it by tieing a string around the pipe to hold a cut out piece in place (this is where the dirt/mud came in)...that was their over flow valve...we had it fixed and done right...no more clogs...a big PITA!
