the joy of home ownership vol. 1...

the tub in the new house was clogged when I bought it so after I poured some Drano Foaming Pipe Snake down it to no avail, I rented an actual pipe snake from Home Depot and got medieval on its ass. this worked for a short time, but as of yesterday the clog was back. for the last few days the water would collect as we showered and be around mid-shin by the time we were through and then take about 3 hours to drain, however, when I got home yesterday around 3:30 p.m., the water from my 6:15 a.m. shower sat in the tub undrained. I pulled the overflow pipe from the front of the tub through the access panel in the laundry room and the water started pouring out under the house! this told me that the clog was right there at the base of the tub. Brent bought some drain opener stuff and poured it down there, the stuff is basically pure sulfuric acid and smelled disgusting, it also caused black sludge to come up through the overflow, but didn't move the water at all. so, by this time it was almost midnight and I had half a bathtub full of sulfuric acid laced water and black sludge. I called Mr. Rooter, whose website claims that they never charge extra for overtime or nights and weekends, but I was informed that it would cost me $95 just to have them show up! I then called Roto Rooter and got a charge of $40, but at least it was less. long story short, $202.50 later, my bathtub now drains.
