So this is what they call "sitting upright"

There I was, on Tuesday, minding my own business, enjoying my Mardi Gras, maybe having a tiny bit of a headache but not thinking too much of it -- yanno, usual kind of stuff.

What about soy? Soymilk in cereal and soy creamer in tea are both very good...

Well, the first part is what they call BRATTY:

bananas
rice
applesauce
tea
toast (dry)
yogurt (no fruit)

When those stay down nicely, add:

noodles
broth
skinless chicken
cheerios
ginger ale

NO YOGURT. No dairy at all for 48 hours after the diarrhea stops.

Diarrhea, regardless of cause, strips the lactase from the intestinal villi. Eating anything with lactose will result in continuation of the diarrhea due to lactose intolerance (acquired, rather than natural), which will prevent the lactase from regenerating. You need 48 hours of normal bowel function to restore your normal levels of lactase. (Of course, if you were lactose intolerant before your intestinal infection, you will still be after...)

How are we defining normal bowel function? Just so I don't screw the timeline up.

Whatever your personal usual/normal is. (I suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, myself, so I swing back and forth from one extreme to the other. When I start having trouble going, I know the stomach bug is over.)

I caught Something Horrible my first semester of college, and the doc told me to stick to toast, rice, unbuttered pasta and hard-boiled eggs. ("How long?" I asked him. "Until you can look at other food without getting nauseated," he said.)

Heh. And that's good. Eggs I can cope with (in the sense that I have them on hand and hard-boiling doesn't take much out of me), but wasn't sure if the yolks would count as being too rich.

Keep in mind it's 20-year-old advice, but it did work for me.
