Wasn't Strega one of the people for whom (at least sometimes) half the show (i.e. anything that didn't support the interpretation she was already taking) flew right over her head? Or was that just the Buffy reviewers?
Noting for the record that I missed the entendre too. I remember the line, but I think I always took it as Lindsey being a smartass about his loyalty to the firm, like if him going down was what kept W&H trundling along, then oh well.
Possibly what helps is the benefit of hindsight and knowing now that yes, they did love to zing those lines right past the censors. Kind of how it takes a while to build up the trust that it's a plot point and not a continuity error.
No, that was Strega. Either she'd accuse the show of not doing things that it did, or she'd come into an ep with her own ideas of what the episode was trying to do and would cut it down if it didn't match her interpretation, regardless of whether the ep was actually doing a fabulous job of meeting its own goals.
Most of the entire show flew over Strega's head. That's why I stopped reading her recaps not long into season 3. I don't mind the snark per se, but it's annoying and tiresome when the recapper is snarking at things which are "wrong" only because the recapper is too full of themselves to get it. I have the same problems with all the West Wing recaps too.
Well, bearing in mind I only started reading the recaps not too long before Epiphany. I can't remember which one was the first, but it can't have been many. So between that and bailing out in early s3 I don't think I swallowed a full season with her in total.
It was def. worth it to hang out on the boards then to see Tim's comments on Epiphany (esp him snarking on Strega) but as time went on the people who hung out there got just as annoying as Strega did. I was happy to discover I could find better talk and spoiler hookups elsewhere.
And TWW recaps are just annoying. Obviously s5 and s6 are a write-off no matter who's talking about them, but the recaps of the early seasons are nothing but tiresome blather from the recappers who either miss the entire point of the ep by a country mile, or embody the fact that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing because they think they know more than Sorkin and all his political consultants could about [insert topic of the ep here]. Which isn't to say Sorkin et al. were experts in their own

Well, I actually *got* that one, but to wear the idiot hat for a minute? The entire threesome innuendo in Couplet escaped me until about a year ago.
But anything re Lindsey? I just assumed that it was going to be all about being on his knees or on his back or grabbing his ankles or ... well, you know.
Huh, can't imagine what about Lindsey would cause that kind of imagery.... ;)
But, see, this is why I crack up at people who look at lines like Spike saying he and Angel have been intimate just that once as proof that the boys are straight. Dudes, shit like that is not put into the show to confirm anyone's heterosexuality, believe me.
erm. well...he didn't say "just that once". He actually never finished the sentence. He said, "just that one...." so, it could have been one time, one week, one month, one year....and he wasn't talking about Angelus - he was talking about ANGEL.
So...yeah! I love my dead gay show and I miss it terribly.
And the Lindsey line? Dude, my husband and I were watching Angel one afternoon and, whoa!! like, we BOTH looked at each other and said, "Did you hear what I heard?"
Later that evening, The Daughter (who is 25) and I were talking over shared cooking, and I told her the line. She giggled, asked if it was the "hot little guy" or "that hot dude, Doyle" who said it. I told her it was Lindsey. Her response? "Hey - I'd like That Guy going down on me" - and then she giggled again, and said, "What? they really sneaked in that line?...Awesome".
