Was watching Redefinition tonight.

It's what? Four years later and I've watched and rewatched this episode a million times and only tonight do I notice this exchange ( Read more... )

Most of the entire show flew over Strega's head. That's why I stopped reading her recaps not long into season 3. I don't mind the snark per se, but it's annoying and tiresome when the recapper is snarking at things which are "wrong" only because the recapper is too full of themselves to get it. I have the same problems with all the West Wing recaps too.

Well, bearing in mind I only started reading the recaps not too long before Epiphany. I can't remember which one was the first, but it can't have been many. So between that and bailing out in early s3 I don't think I swallowed a full season with her in total.

It was def. worth it to hang out on the boards then to see Tim's comments on Epiphany (esp him snarking on Strega) but as time went on the people who hung out there got just as annoying as Strega did. I was happy to discover I could find better talk and spoiler hookups elsewhere.

And TWW recaps are just annoying. Obviously s5 and s6 are a write-off no matter who's talking about them, but the recaps of the early seasons are nothing but tiresome blather from the recappers who either miss the entire point of the ep by a country mile, or embody the fact that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing because they think they know more than Sorkin and all his political consultants could about [insert topic of the ep here]. Which isn't to say Sorkin et al. were experts in their own ( ... )

They definitely got a little too into themselves on the whole. The people who hung out there did too.

Bearing in mind that this was years ago so it's not like I remember specific examples, but basically she would accuse the show of trying to do A and failing miserably at doing A when in fact the show intended to do B the whole time and A was only on the menu in her head. Or she would say the show never explained something which was clearly explained in an earlier act. Or she would say the show was introducing implausible and uncanonical things when in fact the canon in question went all the way back to Buffy.

The list goes on but basically a good chunk of the problems she had with the show were due to her faulty memory and inability to pay attention. Which isn't to say the show itself had no problems, as Lord knows it did, but to me it seemed like a waste of time to read somebody's comments about the show when the show itself wasn't as much of a factor in the commentary.

As I say, I only started reading her about mid s2 and stopped around Nov sweeps of s3, so if her recapping skills improved over the years I have no idea.

Yeah but that's a double edged sword when you think about it. The recappers have to watch and rewatch things in small increments so they can write it down. How likely are they to remember a line from the teaser when they're now on the tail end of act 4 having watched the show via repeating each minute however many dozens of times they need to before moving on to the next minute? Add in the fact that most recappers work over the course of the week and I can easily see how they would forget lines or miss nuances that happened earlier.

I too couldn't stand Strega's recaps. Just pure bs. Glad I'm not the only one who was completey put off by it.
