LJ Idol Topic #8: First World Problems

Jan 04, 2011 22:07

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom much like many kingdoms you have heard of before. There was a King and a Queen and three princesses, each with auburn hair like their mother and hazel eyes like their father, and everyone who saw them said they looked just alike.

Then something changed.

A beautiful fairy tale. Even had a 'happily ever after' though the words were omitted. And a moral.

Excellent.

One of the reasons I like writing fairy tale and fable style stories is that it's totally acceptable to be over the top with the "and here's the lesson you should take away from this." I don't think I'm a naturally preachy or judgmental person but I think that positive, affirmative morals can be a good thing sometimes.

And of course they're happy! They have potatoes! And each other!

I really enjoyed that story!

Good luck and I hope the audience enjoy it too. By the way, you need to get an illustrator and you have your first boo!

Thank you! I actually had this idea for a book, and then I saw the topic for the week and wondered if it could work. It started out 2300 words and I managed to cut it down to just under 1700, so I could easily expand it. I was worried it was still a bit too long for Idol.

Aw, thanks! I had this idea yesterday just BEFORE the topic was posted. I was thinking about the lack of fat heroines and the fact that when there are fat heroines, it's always in stories about girls with eating disorders or emotional problems, or, as one of my good friends said, "stories where the fat heroine finds love and adventure when she loses weight." So I wanted to write a story that wasn't that.

Thank you! I really enjoyed writing it. I might try to expand it out into a longer story at some point.

I'm actually down with the idea of finding an illustrator - it doesn't need to be longer.

Well, I have some scenes I cut to make it a workable length for LJ Idol, and I'd like to put them back in if I do anything else with it!
