LJ Idol Topic #8: First World Problems

Jan 04, 2011 22:07

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom much like many kingdoms you have heard of before. There was a King and a Queen and three princesses, each with auburn hair like their mother and hazel eyes like their father, and everyone who saw them said they looked just alike.

Then something changed.

I had some potatoes with dinner tonight! Who doesn't love potatoes?

Thank you!

So cute! Hattie's a great heroine; her retort to the frog made me laugh out loud! I also love that Otatopia is potato pig latin. ;)

Oh! That's really funny! I was thinking "Potato backwards" without realizing that the word also sounds like Pig Latin.

Thanks! I cut a lot out of the story to make it a digestible size for Idol (it started out at about 2300 words when I finished it yesterday so I cut almost 600 words from it) so I was concerned that Hattie's personality was getting completely excised in favor of the plot.

I actually had this idea as something to write for kids first! I had been out to lunch on Monday and the idea of a story about a fat princess just popped into my head, with pretty much the entire plot fully formed. Then the topic went up and it seemed like a perfect fit so I wrote it up. I'm glad, because otherwise I might not have had the motivation to write it.
