I should really be studying, but I've been at it all day, I'm finally averaging 80% in the mock exams and 70% is the pass rate, and my head is mince

Cross fingers for your Dad. Mine had a nast shock earlier this year as well , but all does seem well at the moment.

Took us about 3 months to write thank yous, and I think thats quite usual unless you are scarily organised
