Like, lighten up and read the dish page for once, love, you might even smile!

Hee! Hermione's more like a soap character. She only watches or reads the news when she and her friends are featured.

Hee. Then it must all be Malfoy’s fault!

It's funny Harry sounds like Lucius is a tattletale here, especially when Sirius chose to go out to a public train station with so many people there. Peter Pettigrew could have been there for all he knew. If Lucius knows, presumably any DE could, right? Maybe Mr. Crabbe passed on the info.

Notice Harry isn't so worried about not being able to copy from Hermione.

This is where we remember Hermione had no friends before Harry and Ron, and would be pretty friendless without them, if she does all this for them. Regularly doing homework for your friends?

Although, I'm surprised they follow the smallest member of their team. Good for Draco and his leadership skillz!

Particularly since he's humiliated more than any other Slytherin.

You know, somehow I get the impression they're amused.A ( ... )

I don't think Hermione's ever read a fiction book, never mind anything as frivolous as news that doesn't concern her own life.

Does appear to be a bit of a flint, since Peter's had over thirteen years to tell Voldie about his buddies Animagus activities, and even discounting his adventures as Scabbers; two years of being back in the fold, and yet there's that bit at the start about him having told 'by now' as if he won't tell until JKR needs him in the plot.

Particularly since he's humiliated more than any other Slytherin.

Heh, perhaps the Slytherins like an underdog? Everything seems to be opposite land in HP!world, what with 'the Gryffindors are the loveable victims with a five year winning streak'; so it's not impossible, I guess ;)

I mean, if it's supposed to be racist you kind of have to connect it to race.True. But then JKR doesn't appear to have more ( ... )

You'd think it would come out naturally when somebody asked him, "So Peter. You're a rat?"

You could be right, though. Could be a 'look, Pansy's silly and criticises other girls' hair because she's so shallow' bit.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it's supposed to be racist as you said, and it just didn't come across to me because it requires that temporary jump out of canon and into our world, you know? Like this is one of those times when you're supposed to supplement canon with things from our world even if the two should be separate. Sort of like how you're supposed to associate Mudblood with specific racial slurs even though it hasn't been set up that way.

And you're right - Ron's tall and built, he has years of practice (unlike Ginny, who's another Miracle Baby who doesn't need to play with others), he's good at taking orders and working within a team, and he's strategic, since he can play chess. (Heh, isn ( ... )

It's kind of bizarre that both Ron is 15 before anybody sees him play, including his brothers.

Didn't they play in holidays or something? I guess they all sat around contemplating how fabulous Harry was or something, and Ron's skills or lack thereof were completely unnoticed.

ultimately what breaks it up is...::shock!:: Hermione.

Ooh, you're right! Didn't they have some argument where Cho says what a mean hex it was ((((Cho)))) and Harry's like "coldly": 'It was brilliant HAHAHAHAHA' Cho had sense man - get out of that relationship while you still can.

* ...wondering vaguely how many elves had now been set free whether they wanted to be or not.

More emphasis on what the elves want. First Ron wonders about how they feel (Ron, people! Love that Harry doesn't get involved. Presumably he has Much More Important Things to Think About, and of course the readers would feel compelled to take his side of the argument over the others.), then they're described as 'unwary' implying they have reason to be suspicious of Hermione, now this.

Silly question, but can Hermione really free the house elves? She doesn't own them. They work for or are under Dumbledore's aegis.

She clearly thinks she can, but she equally clearly can't; if any random person giving them clothes was enough to set them free, Harry could have just handed a sock to Dobby in CoS and had done with it instead of having to trick Lucius into giving it to him. It looks like Hermione is engaging in a large amount of pointless behavior because she hasn't done her homework.

*gasp* Hermione hasn't researched the topic well enough? It cannot BE!

Someone at that school really needs to start a debating team or something that will lead to a more productive use of Hermione's time. I refuse to believe Quidditch is the only extra-curricular activity the kids can be involved in.

Don't they also have a Gobstones club at Hogwarts, or something like that?

I actually do truly believe that there's a pretty damn interesting social/club life in Hogwarts that we're missing because Harry is so wrapped up in his Dark Lord problems that he doesn't even know who his class mates are, let alone what they do in his spare time. Though I bet Hermione isn't actually involved in said clubs or social activities either-- studying and mothering/badgering Harry and Ron seem to take up most of a time. What a boring life she must lead, in between the adventures.
