On the plus side, there do seem to exist a couple of places which could conceivably put something interesting together.

Edge FX, in California. Movie and TV animatronics and robotics, animatronic suits and costumes.
There are plenty of other places around, but very few seem to offer the same combination of robots, animatronics, costuming, and most importantly - seamless blends of the three. -
Fight scene!
As a side effect of the clearup in the den, no less than five Transformer toys seem to have found their way to my desk.

Prosthetic hands
I've always had a fascination with artificial hands, going back beyond The Empire Strikes Back and probably to The Six Million Dollar Man.
