Prosthetic hands

I've always had a fascination with artificial hands, going back beyond The Empire Strikes Back and probably to The Six Million Dollar Man. The closest thing to useful on the market today is probably the i-LIMB, which is fully articulated and can apparently grasp and lift around twenty kilos ( Read more... )

If I had the time and money to go back to tertiary education, I've often thought that it might be interesting to do biomechatronics.

One thing I'd like to do with the ability to completely digitise the joint positions of a hand (effectively, the output stream on the hand side of the filter), is to be able to drop the prosthetic into a 'virtual mode', where the motions are mapped to be inputs for optional electronics modules ( ... )
