Busy busy and also busy

I booked my trip to Washington, D.C. yesterday.  Holy expensive, America.  I'll be flying into Ronald Reagan airport and staying at a Marriott close to the conference headquarters in a room I'm sharing with my boss, who is pretty cool and fun.  Although it does mean I'll have to wear pants and act professional.  I'd better squeeze a lot of learning ( Read more... )

Your reasons for learning Mi'kmaq - the feel for the culture - reminds me of my reasons for wanting to learn Gaelic (which I've yet to actually do), though I'm not sure how many of my ancestors actually spoke it.

I think it's really great that you're learning Mi'kmaq. The benefits of that aren't limited to people who have kids to pass it on to - every person who speaks a language becomes part of the process of keeping that language, and by extension the culture it comes from, alive. Additionally, different languages embody different worldviews, different ways of perceiving the world and other people, and learning a new language can be a new way of looking at the world - or a rediscovery of an old way, as the case may be.

I do my taxes online and just follow all the instructions to enter the info. It's quick and I keep the soft copy version of the tax return while they do direct deposit to my bank account.... only cost me about $20/year
