Came home and had a brief melt-down because the lasagna I'd ben looking forward to was both overcooked and cold and mr_pugh had eaten the icecream I was saving.  Now admittedly, this was his first attempt at lasagna, and for a first time out it was ok.  I've certainly made worse ones myself.  Also, he didn't have any idea I'd been saving the icecream, ( Read more... )

i have the perfect outfit in mind! the only thing i don't yet have is fishnet gloves. gotta think of what to do with my hair, though... it'll at least be purple again. :)

lasagna sounds soo good right now. actually, it is the prospect of over-cooked cheese, I think. I shall have to do something about that.

i also like the idea of working until i drop. i never want to not be active.

I'm of two minds on the whole retirement thing. I certainly don't agree that there's a certain age after which one should do nothing, but there are massive numbers of things I want to do that don't earn money. "Work" in the general sense of "doing stuff" might give my life meaning, but work in the sense of actual jobs doesn't (and running one's own business, as I do, is borderline). Arguable, jobs can suck the meaning out of one's life.

So while I don't intend to stop doing stuff until I'm dead, I would be delighted if a point came when I didn't have to work for a living any more and could instead work at doing the stuff I want to do - writing books, making art, etc. However, as I also have no secret trust fund or other firm plans for retirement, I'll probably be still fighting out with neurotic clients when I'm 95.

Oh, and re: party. If dressing crazy is good, I just may go to the Goodwill over by Vaughan and try on that pewter-grey prom dress that's been taunting me from the window for the past week or two...

i'm totally with you an the retirement thing, though it never occured to me that it was because i grew up kinda poor. i guess my mom will probably retire, but she doesn't really talk about it. i always saw it as the refuge of people who spent their lives doing jobs they hated, which i don't think i could do, even if i wanted to (i get fired). i'd rather be poor and work hard at things i care about til i'm 90 than work hard at things i dispise and retire comfortably when i'm 65. i have no guarantee i'll live that long, so i'd rather be happy now.

I am interested in this birthday of yours, but i don't know where you live.

I heard retirement described as the long-term plan of people who live for the weekend after working at jobs they hate. I found that pretty accurate as a description of howit's sometimes presented.

I'll post my address and directions in a friends-oly post closer to the party. I hope you can make it.
