Tobias pulled the bright blue scarf further up his nose, trying to fight off the chill. It was just his luck of course, that he'd have to go out in this miserable weather. At least he hadn't subjected the dog, having the good sense to leave her asleep in hallway.

The grand opening caught his eye immediately. How could he resist? It promised backed goods and a brief reprise from his chilly walk. That an attractive young man approached him with a cookie seemed like a daydream gone awry.

"Thank you." He offered board smile in return for the cookie. "Quite kind of you."

River smiled in response to the older man who had come in and then waved his arm out around the shop. The group who had been sitting in the chairs earlier were now all gone, leaving plenty of seating open. "Feel free to linger around," he said with a grin casting a furtive glance to the snow outside. "You could probably use some warming up." He looked back at Tobias with another grin and walked back over behind the counter, resting his hands on the top and leaning against it. "If you'd like I've also got some coffee brewing."

"Coffee would be divine." He agreed, surveying the shop with interest. "This is a lovely place."

He took a bite of the cookie and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. "And a very nice baked good. What terrible weather to have on for an opening though. I hope it hasn't dampened business too much."

"Coming right up," River said as he grabbed a freshly cleaned mug and walked over to the temporary coffee station (he was moving the thing as soon as Allison opened her place up) and poured Tobias a cup. "Thank you for saying so," River replied with a small amount of pride and handed the older man the mug of coffee. "There's sugar and cream over there by the tables if you need it. And I've been rather surprised by how many people I've gotten today despite the weather." He chuckled and shrugged, "Not a lot can keep people away from free cookies."

Adison pulled on her coat over her scrubs and rubbed her eyes. As much as she told herself she didn't mind the crap shifts, and that being the new kid would wear off eventually, she hated working nights. She never could get enough sleep to be rested beforehand, and it messed up her sleep for days afterward.

And it was cold outside. Adison had walked to work--it wasn't that far, and she hadn't wanted to drive in case of ice. So now she had to walk home, over icy sidewalks and in the cold wind.

She almost turned west, to take the most direct route to her apartment, before remembering. It was February 1st, and that little bakery she'd been eying was supposed to open today. Despite her exhaustion, she turned north to take the long way.

She inhaled deeply as she walked in, a broad grin spreading across her face. The place smelled of fresh bread, and cookies, and sweet things. And it was much warmer than outside. She was in love already.

River glanced up when he noticed another person walk in and smiled. "Hello," he greeted and closed up the display case back where he had been restocking the croissants. "Welcome to Jones French Bakery." He picked up a cookie with a napkin and held it out for the woman to take. "Feel free to escape the weather in here for as long as you want. I've even got coffee if you're interested." He normally waited to offer but the young lady looked like she was exhausted.

"Thank you, God, yes, I want coffee." Adison smiled in relief, accepting the proffered cookie. "I'm excited to see this place finally open. I've been waiting for it since I got lost trying to find my new apartment and drove past. Almost forgot it was today; as far as I'm concerned it's still Monday."

She grinned broadly. "So I'd like to give you ten dollars and receive a selection of baked chocolatey goodness worth approximately that. Do you mind surprising me? I've found I just can't decide what I want on my own."

"Comin' right up," River said as he walked to the counter and grabbed a mug, setting it out for Adison to grab as soon as he was done pouring coffee. "I'm ridiculously glad to hear that," he said laughingly as he poured the coffee. "The days do seem to blend that much more into each otehr with the weather we're having."

At her request he clapped his hands together excitedly. "I'd love to!" he said happily and then gestured at the table with the cream and sugar for coffee. "If you need to doctor your coffee go ahead. I'll pick you out a treat while you do."

Alex had put a note on his phone, so when it vibrated after lunch, he'd discovered the reminder about the new bakery opening. Telling Chris he'd be back, he grabbed his coat, stepping outside and feeling the cold before he trotted upstairs for a hat and gloves.

As he made his way down the street, he couldn't help but remember winters in New York. People were fearless in them, out regardless of snow. Here, he saw only a few people, and as he neared the shop, he saw a few more inside. Excellent.

Entering, he saw River was occupied, and went over to the menu, perusing and seeing the upcoming Valentine's Day specials. Thinking maybe he'd order something for dessert for the day Ty had promised him (and he licked his lips at the thought), Alex was content to wait until River was free so he could offer his congratulations.

Entering the bakery, Derrick looked around and froze when he spotted Alex. He debated going over to his boss or not, and sighed. He'd been honest when he said he wanted to get to know the other man outside of work and despite what had just happened with Ty, he still wanted to.

He walked over to him and took a deep breath. Letting it out slowly, he smiled and said cautiously, "Hey. Fancy meeting you here."

River spotted the familiar blond who had walked in and smirked privately to himself as he finished up with the customer and sent them on their way. He grabbed a cookie and a mug of coffee and walked over to Alex. "Nice to see you," he said slyly as he handed over the coffee and cookie. "I hope you've come to buy something because I don't like loiters." He grinned widely at Alex, obviously joking.

He noticed the other guy who had come in early walk over, eyebrows raising even as he smiled at Derrick. "Hello, sorry I didn't get you a cookie," he said and then backed away as unawkwardly as he could manage, realizing there was some drama between the two men. "I'll be right back with that. Do you want some coffee, too?"

Derrick smiled at him. "I'd love a cup of coffee. It's freezing out there!" he said, shivering a little and rubbing at his arms.

Derrick sighed, rubbing his hands together. After leaving Ty, he had decided to meander around Ft. Worth. Probably not the best idea in the weather, but he had so much on his mind that it hadn't registered until his fingers had started tingling.

He stopped walking and looked around, finally seeing a street sign - oh, good, he hadn't gone too far! Noticing a a business sign, he walked a little closer and smiled. A bakery! Maybe something sweet would perk him up a bit. And if they had coffee, he could certainly use a cup before making the trek back to his car.

Derrick looked over from where he had been studying the menu after Alex had left and gave a half-hearted smile. "Thanks," he said softly. "A little sugar's always a good thing when you're having a bad day, right?"

The cold was certainly not his favorite thing in the world. He hated it just as much as he hated the rain and other nasty weather patterns that kept him away from moving freely from place to place. As it was Tuesday, he was thankful he had the day off. Karaoke was schedule for that night and although the weather would be horrendous, he always tried to get that day off because there was bound to be at least a few people that show up and sing drunkenly. He would try to make it by the gym, despite the horrible weather.

Brendon tightened his coat around himself as he walked down Magnolia. He had seen the fliers posted up about this new bakery opening so he had made plans to visit to at least check it out. It may have also been the fact that he really needed to get out more. Or so a choice person had told him more often than not. He rolled his eyes fondly to himself as he stepped into the bakery and rubbed his hands together. It was much warmer inside. He looked around and could smell the lovely scent of fresh baked bread and pastries. ( ... )

Alex was turning to go, having bid River farewell, when he walked into someone in the doorway. "Oof! Sorry about that." He said automatically, before getting a look at the guy and smiling slowly. "Or maybe I'm not. Did I do any damage I should apologize for?" He made apologize sound a bit lewd as he said it.

Brendon was just taking a look around and spotting the menu when someone ran into him. Instantaneously, he put his hands out and braced a hand on the man's forearm, "Oof. Oh, no harm done, yeah? I'm sorry for just standing in the doorway." He said quickly with a smile and removed his hand. He took a good look at the man who had run into him then quirked his lips quirked up in amusement at the lewd comment. "No damage but an apology in the form of tea or pastry of some sort wouldn't go unwanted," he teased, looking the man over. That look also had the implication that other form of apologies wouldn't go unwanted either but that was open for interpretation.

"You do make a better door than window." Alex teased. "Be happy to treat you. Good time for it, everything's fresh and warm here still." He grinned. Whomever this stranger was, he was pretty damn hot.

"I'm Alex, by the way. Definitely want to know your name." He held out his hand.
