The cold was certainly not his favorite thing in the world. He hated it just as much as he hated the rain and other nasty weather patterns that kept him away from moving freely from place to place. As it was Tuesday, he was thankful he had the day off. Karaoke was schedule for that night and although the weather would be horrendous, he always tried to get that day off because there was bound to be at least a few people that show up and sing drunkenly. He would try to make it by the gym, despite the horrible weather.

Brendon tightened his coat around himself as he walked down Magnolia. He had seen the fliers posted up about this new bakery opening so he had made plans to visit to at least check it out. It may have also been the fact that he really needed to get out more. Or so a choice person had told him more often than not. He rolled his eyes fondly to himself as he stepped into the bakery and rubbed his hands together. It was much warmer inside. He looked around and could smell the lovely scent of fresh baked bread and pastries. ( ... )

Alex was turning to go, having bid River farewell, when he walked into someone in the doorway. "Oof! Sorry about that." He said automatically, before getting a look at the guy and smiling slowly. "Or maybe I'm not. Did I do any damage I should apologize for?" He made apologize sound a bit lewd as he said it.

Brendon was just taking a look around and spotting the menu when someone ran into him. Instantaneously, he put his hands out and braced a hand on the man's forearm, "Oof. Oh, no harm done, yeah? I'm sorry for just standing in the doorway." He said quickly with a smile and removed his hand. He took a good look at the man who had run into him then quirked his lips quirked up in amusement at the lewd comment. "No damage but an apology in the form of tea or pastry of some sort wouldn't go unwanted," he teased, looking the man over. That look also had the implication that other form of apologies wouldn't go unwanted either but that was open for interpretation.

"You do make a better door than window." Alex teased. "Be happy to treat you. Good time for it, everything's fresh and warm here still." He grinned. Whomever this stranger was, he was pretty damn hot.

"I'm Alex, by the way. Definitely want to know your name." He held out his hand.

"I should hope so," Brendon teased back then chuckled. "Then I will take you up on the offer."

"Nice to meet you, Alex," he shook his hand with a smirk - maybe, okay most definitely playing up the accent a bit. "Brendon, but everyone calls me Fitzgerald or Fitz."

"Fitz, eh?" Alex grinned. "Good Brit name." Alex went over to the counter and in short order they both were outfitted with pastries and hot tea. Something nagged at his mind, but he pushed it aside in favor of flirting with this very attractive man.

"Want to a walk? I'm on break, so I have to get back. But I'd love for you to see my place. Maybe you've heard of it. Angel Abbey?" He said, moving towards the door.

"Mm," Brendon nodded with a grin. He was sure glad he dropped into the bakery after all. Brendon took a sip of his tea before he looked at him. "Thanks for the tea and pastry, Alex," he grinned. Let it not be known he was not a complete unthankful asshole.

"Lucky for you, I have today off so I'll be happy to see your place," he gave a grin to Alex. Brendon walked to the door then out as he thought about it then nodded. "I've heard of it but have yet to visit."

"My pleasure." He said with a wink. Anyways a pleasure to meet a new person, especially if they were hot, and British to boot.

"Lucky for me indeed." He agreed. "Now that you have a personal invitation, do come back. We've got something for everyone, I think."

As they walked, he asked, "So, what do you do, Brendon, call me Fitz?"

Brendon chuckled and raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? I'll have to try and make it out more often then, won't I?" He tried to think of something that might be just a little off the wall to see if they would have it. "So, do you serve bangers n' mash then?" Brendon gave the other man a teasing smirk. He never truly had it for years but he did remember it was never something he took a liking to. Or maybe it was the name that he never took a liking to. Same difference either way.

He took another sip of his tea as they walked before answering the question. "I run The Hawthorne actually - have you heard of it?" he raised an eyebrow. "I'm usually there apart from two nights of the week," he frowned momentarily, he really couldn't get over how much he hated being around those nights. However, they were one of his most busiest nights considering it was also 2-4-1s those evenings as well.

Alex chuckled. "Sometimes. We have a bit of a Wine and Dine on Wednesdays, and last week I demanded some good pub grub. We frequently do Shepard's pie that's rather traditional. " He smiled back. "But no Toad in the Hole. Gotta draw the line somewhere." He shuddered. It hadn't been one of his favorites. Though gravy in general wasn't something he liked, but it all depended on how it was prepared.

"I think so." Alex said, frowning in concentration. "Where's it at? I don't get out much. Tend to stay in and fluff the customers." He laughed at himself. "So, something special about those two nights?" He asked curiously.

Brendon chuckled. "Okay, Shepard's pie is something I could certainly get behind," he nodded then winced at the mention of Toad in the Hole. "Glad to hear there's no Toad in the Hole at least."

"I don't get out much either, if it's any consolation," he gave the other man a grin. He explained the location of The Hawthorne as he finished up his pastry. "They're our busiest nights for one reason," he paused and held up two fingers, "okay, two reasons alone. It's 2-4-1s and karaoke. I really don't like karaoke."

"Right. I did hear about you guys." Alex snorted. "And that's the reason why we don't do karaoke but once a month if I have to." He shuddered. "Definitely see why you'd take that night off."

"We've started doing a lot more theme nights. For the area there's a lot of singles and plenty of events that cater to them." He said, finishing his tea. "Tuesdays we do pub quiz, so you'll have to check it out sometime. And Thursdays we do tags, sort of like a way to express if you're looking, wanting a hookup, wanting something serious." He shrugged. "So far, so good, right? Keep em coming back for more."

"Married to the work, I guess you could say. AA's my baby." He said fondly.

"If I could get away with only having it once a month, I would. Faster than you could count to three. I have an assistant manager to takes over those nights and it's sort of her pet project. She sort of started making me take those nights off because she would get tired of my mood," Brendon shakes his head with a chuckle, finishing his tea.

He nodded and listened to what Angel Abbey had to offer. "Sounds like you have a nice set up. How long have you been open?" He understood the part about being married to the job though, he was completely the same way. He had been at The Hawthorne for more than half his life - it was everything and more to him.

"My assistant... well, he's a bit more Spock to my Kirk." Alex said, grinning as he thought of how meticulous and focused Chris got. "But he's great for the job, and never complains."

He swallowed the last of his pastry before replying. "Since August. Not long, but we've developed a good reputation and a fairly loyal crowd." He smiled. "Sort of like Cheers. Go where everyone knows your name." He looked at Brendon. "How about you? How'd you come by the Hawthorne?"

Brendon threw his trash into a nearby trash can then proceeded to dig his hands into the pockets of his coat. He had never seen Cheers but that sounded a bit like the Hawthorne as well if he thought about it. "Sounds like a great place," he responded after a moment or two. He took out a toothpick from his pocket, unwrapped it before slipping it between his lips.

It was the same story he told everyone else really, the extremely drummed down version of events. "Been there for fifteen/twenty years now. Since I fifteen or so," he looked at Alex with a grin. "Came one day and just never left."

"Wow, wouldn't have figured you for 35." Alex said, flirting. Men were just as susceptible to compliments about their age as women. They arrived at Angel Abbey, and he gestured to the door. "Want to come in and warm up, or have I monopolized you long enough?"
