Room Number (Handwavey), Arms Hotel, Saturday Morning

(The part of Rikku will be played by Kristanna Loken, for entirely shallow reasons.)

What a lovely morning it was, even if she did feel a touch sick to her stomach. Really. She wouldn't lie about that! She'd never lie about the horribly, terribly important condition she was in, and the repercussions it might have for her and her soulmate, Reno ( Read more... )

"Talk...?" Reno raised an eyebrow at ... Rikku? That was Rikku. Okay. Reno raised an eyebrow at her from where he was sitting at the windowsill, blowing smoke out the window (lazily and not at all dramatically, thank you), and wearing just his pants.

Because he'd just woken up, and hadn't gotten over his typical case of morning laziness enough to put a shirt on yet. Shut up.

"Uh. About what?"

He was so beautiful, by the morning's light. She would never let anything come between them again. Not the wretched Countess, or her horrifying machinations. She was doing this for them; surely he would understand that!

"I think you had better sit down," she said, giving him her very best doe eyes. "I ... I have news. I don't know if it's good or bad, yet. That ... depends on you."

Reno... looked at the chair that he was already sitting in. Right, then. Sitting down. Look, he was already a step ahead?

"Depends on me how, babe?"

Rikku was kinda freaking him out, here.

She took his hands. His hands! They were sculpted by an artist, and she placed her lips against his fingertips.

"You know I love you, right?" she said. "And that I would never do anything to hurt you. Or to hurt us."

Plenty of good conversations started like that. Really.

Romeo hesitated before the door before tapping at it with his cane. He'd found it by counting steps -- or so he thought -- but this was the fourth room he'd tried.

He owed flowers to the people he had burst in on.

"Hello?" he called impatiently. He had Things to say. Big, Important Things, that could hardly wait for the door to open.

"Romeo!" Rikku called, racing over to the door happily. It was Romeo! Her dear, true friend! Though once, they had been more ... but that had been a mistake! Surely they both realized it. Reno was her soulmate, Romeo was just a dear friend. There was nothing between them. She was sure of it. Mostly.

Nonetheless, she embraced him in the doorway, perhaps for a moment too long. Or a few moments too long. "You look good," she said happily.

"Do I?" Romeo asked in a choked voice that overflowed with emotion for the lovely -- or so he assumed -- young woman in his arms. "It's not as if mirrors do me much good these days."

Somewhere, a piano struck a sad chord.

He smiled wanly. "You sound good," he said, barely managing not to add snookiewookums. That was what he had called her ... before.

"She does?" Reno stared incredulously at Romeo. And at Rikku. And then facepalmed at the piano. Where the fuck did the piano come from?!

"I was gonna say it was good to see you, man, but considering the circumstances..."

Like how apparently the both of them were completely batshit insane.

Sokka stumbled down the hallway, not entirely sure how he'd gotten there, or where he'd come from. Intermittent amnesia was, unfortunately, one of the symptoms of the final, most terminal stage of the particular type of terminally fatal braine canser that he had.

He knocked on a door at random. "Mel? MEL?"

"Sokka!" Rikku was going to greet him with a very enthustiastic hug! One that had absolutely no sexual tension in it! Because she would never betray her love for Reno. Never ever. She had moments of weakness, but they were just that, moments, and weakness. She was only human. (So far as she knew. What was that strange piano chord???)

"I haven't seen Mel," she said, giving him a squeeze. Her heart panged. Mel! They had betrayed her! No one must ever know. "Darling, how is your brayne cancer?"

Sokka hugged her back, clinging with the cling of a clinging person who didn't want to fall over from braine canser.

"It hurts," he told her. And then he swooned.

Rikku tried to catch him, for a moment, then let him drop to the ground.

"I'm so sorry," she said, kneeling next to him. "I ... I was concerned that ... in my condition, I shouldn't be ... straining myself."
