Chuck was in his hut, flipping through a Japanese phrasebook he'd gotten off of the bookshelf when he thought he heard Ellie and Awesome come back. He hadn't really been waiting for their return, but it'd been a week, and he wanted to see how everything had gone.

Not that he wanted any of the details, because the last thing he ever wanted to hear ( Read more... )

The week had been everything Ellie had expected it to be, and more. Even though the honeymoon was all over now, she still wasn't quite out of the mode yet as she busied herself putting some things away while Devon was taking a walk up to the Compound. She was just getting done putting some clothes away when she heard the knock, and headed over to open the door. She brightened immediately when she realized who it was.

"Chuck!" she exclaimed, opening the door up completely for him. She didn't take long to give her brother a hug, pulling away after a moment to smile at him. "I was just thinking of coming over to see if you were around."

Chuck grinned back. He couldn't help but think that Ellie hadn't stopped smiling since the wedding a week ago.

"Yeah, I thought I heard you guys, so I figured I'd wander over and, you know, say hi to the Woodcombs," He said. His sister with a new last name was still going to take a little getting used to, but change was good.

"So, how was the trip?"

The novelty of being called Woodcomb wasn't something she thought she was going to fade any time soon. She stepped aside to let him in, closing the door once he was. "The trip was great. It was nice to have new surroundings for a little while."

It felt, at least, like they had actually gone away as opposed to just keeping to themselves for a week. That had been the whole point of it.

"How has things been here?" she asked, once she'd turned to him again.

"Good. Great," Chuck said, nodding, "You know, the usual. Video games with Morgan and Karen, brushing up on stuff for the end of the school term, got back together with Sarah, and I'm not sure, but I think I saw Hugh Jackman on the beach."

It was really hard to keep a straight face, knowing that Ellie would probably zero in on the big news he'd slipped in almost immediately.
