Dae and I went to see Quantum of Solace today, and we both really enjoyed it. It's definitely not your typical Bond movie - the action and the gadgets don't really stick in the memory. Instead, I loved: the score; slight, mesmerising Mathieu Almaric as the wide-eyed Dominic Greene; Daniel Craig and his...everything; the revelation that is Olga ( Read more... )

I think you're the first person I know that liked Quantum of Solace. I was quite disappointed in it myself. Yes, all the actors are good. Yes, it's well shot. Fair enough, I'm not sure I could love Mathieu Amalric more right now. (That actor fascinates me.) But I would've liked to watch a movie that didn't make me feel as if they were shooting the first draft of the script.

Also, can it be Underworld time already?

I think if you go into it expecting a Bond movie, you might be disappointed. But on its own merits, I thought it was entertaining, and approaching beautiful at points. Almaric was FAB.

Bill Nighy!!!

I love Olga. I like the intro using the sand. I love the fight in Italy, a mix of the old and new and the absence of high-tech gadgets.

I liked the opening credits too - how rumpled Bond's silhouette looked, unsteady on his feet, like he was continuously losing the ground beneath him. Great metaphor for the film, I thought.

Yay for the good review of Quantum of Solace. I'm really glad that Daniel Craig's Bond is my first one, especially considering all I've heard about what the previous movies were like. :D I can't wait to see it myself.

I've always been a bit scornful of Bond movies before Craig, so maybe that puts me in a minority of reviewers. I've been a Daniel Craig fan much longer than I've been a Bond fan. :)

Well, I think they have their place. Each of them were really crafted around the Bond of the time. Connery was the seductor, and Moore was the humorous smooth one... *shrug* I think I'm one of the few people who pretty much loves ALL the Bond films, flaws and all. :)

I think yours is the first positive review I've seen for Quantum of Solace so thanks for restoring some of my hope.

Also: *BIG HUGS*.

It works fine as a drama, and the emotional arc is so much more important than any plot or narrative. I could nitpick, and point out moments that I thought were unnecessarily "arty" for this type of film, but overall I liked it.
