Living on a magically beautiful tropical island and having a dragon at his back, it was easy to feel immortal. It was easy to fly up close to the sun, lean forward to grin recklessly at Toothless, and laugh as he unhooked his leg from the pedal. They were so high up that the air almost felt cool, despite the cloudless sky and warm sun, and the wind ( Read more... )

"I am so jealous of you." Cassie said as she approached them. She'd been out for a run and had caught the impressive aerial show. There had been a pang in her stomach as she'd stopped to watch, wishing she could be up there flying with them but she was happy that at least someone still got to fly around here. "That looked like so much fun!"

"It was!" Hiccup admitted, grinning widely and putting the Dragon Manual aside. "It feels like flying. I mean, on my own."

He wondered if it was a little weird to ask but he added, "We could take you up sometime."

"And there is not greater feeling then flying on your own." Cassie said by way of agreement, smiling knowingly.

But her smile faltered for a moment at Hiccup's question. "Really? You...you could do that?" While it wouldn't be the same, flying on a dragon would still be better then nothing and Hiccup could have no idea how much his offer meant to her.

"'Course. You just hang on behind me!" Hiccup explained, pausing when Toothless nudged him in the back with his nose.

"Unless you wanted to try the jumping thing. That might take a little more coordination."

Following the black shape flying overhead, Cass moved silently through the trees running in flat shoes. Dropping down onto the sand Cass ran across the sand silently, watching the creature. Waiting for its head to pop up and look at her, waiting for an attack. She had no weapons but that didn't mean she wasn't ready for it, if it came to that.

Cass hadn't had a challenge yet but he looked exactly like one.

While Hiccup was absorbed in the book, Toothless sensed the presence of a watcher. Spending as much time on the island as his human, Toothless had come to expect people to approach them openly when he sensed them. When the silent watcher didn't come forward, Toothless curled his tail around Hiccup and looked around, eyes narrowed and ears flat against his head.

Noticing Toothless' change in posture made Hiccup tense as well, rising and tucking the book under his arm so that he was ready to jump on the dragon's back if necessary. "What do you see, bud?"

The creature sensed her; the shift in pressure, her smell, the way she waited quietly. It's whole body shifted, tensing and protecting. Like Cassandra with Steph, noting the similarity between human behaviour and creature Cass moved into its field of vision. Still tucked out of sight from the boy. Lips twitching almost into a smile, she moved quickly running silently towards it adjusting the weight of her stance.

With a powerful surge of his wings, Toothhless leaped up and over Hiccup, putting himself between the two of them. It was a challenge and a question.

"Toothless! Toothles! What are you doing!?"
