Alcuin's ballroom dance class was in full swing, as it were. During his years here on the island, he had expanded his repertoire considerably beyond the styles he had learned in Terre d'Ange - everything originating in South America, for example, had been foreign to him (though did have some similarities to Aragonian styles he had seen). It was ( Read more... )

It's a little used skill of his but, being from Blackpool, Declan's known his fair share of ballroom dancers. He's even learned how to do it, more or less, and while he's never going to be a professional he knows a hell of a lot more about foxtrots and tangos than any amount of military training's ever going to teach him.

When he sees the boy (man? he's young, anyway) trying to dance out the tango by himself, Declan watches for a moment before he says anything. He's not half bad, for no partner, and while he's hardly an expert, he'll pitch in.

"I could lead, if you want, but I don't know the woman's part if you want to lead."

Alcuin spun at the sound, then smiled when he saw the man there, at his offer.

"All right," he said. "How about you lead first, and then if you're feeling adventurous you can allow me to drag you around?"

Declan can't say he's ever danced with a man before but it's not exactly a big deal. The boy wants to learn to dance and Declan knows the dance he wants to learn so it seems only natural. He cracks a grin.

"If we're dancing, I should probably get your name. I'm Declan, Declan MacRae."

"Alcuin no Delaunay." Alcuin flashed him a friendly, charming smile. "A pleasure to meet you, and... thank you. I haven't had as much opportunity to practice the tango and it's a dance I'm not as familiar with." He nodded to the screen. "I thought I might try to emulate the one in this film."

Florence stood, almost awestruck at the man moving through the room, gliding like Astaire at his best. It was, without a doubt one of the most elegant things she'd seen on the island, smooth, powerful and with a man that looked like that more than a little sensual. She even found herself blushing a little as she watched.

All thoughts of the book in her hands were forgotten as she leaned against the door frame, intending to just enjoy the sight as long as she could. A simple pleasure, no harm, no foul, and she certainly wasn't thinking of any of her troubles at the moment.

When the music ended, Alcuin considered turning the reel back again, but then looked to the doorway and saw the woman there watching him.

He blinked, surprised. "Maureen?" He was under the impression that she was gone from the island.

There it was. Sooner or later someone was going to obviously make that mistake, actually say it instead of looking at her from the corner of their eye, too polite or shy to say anything. And strangely enough, she didn't mind it as much as she thought she would. In a place full of strangers, it was a touch familiarity, even it it was misplaced.

Shaking her head with a smile she blushed a little harder. "I'm sorry, I'm not her. I've heard about here, but... my name is Florence."

Alcuin had been on the island long enough to not be startled by that revelation. "Oh, my apologies," he said, and crossed the room to her, offering his hand. "My name is Alcuin. It's nice to meet you, Florence."

Savannah had talked to Jack and had been told one name. Oh, she'd put it off because she didn't want to be a nuisance but it was getting harder and harder to get comfortable. She resolved that she wouldn't seek out the man Jack had told her about but would leave it to fate. She'd meet him eventually.

Apparently that time was now.

Jack had told her she wouldn't be able to miss him. He was beautiful, had white hair, was graceful as any old thing. She watched him dance until he quit and then she smiled and stepped forward, her round belly leading the way.

"You must be Alcuin. Jack told me about you," she said sweetly. "I'm Savannah."

When Alcuin turned and saw the sweet-faced pregnant girl, he could only smile. "Jack? Oh, I hope he told you good things. It's lovely to meet you, Savannah."

Oh, that smile could make the angels swoon. Her own heartbeat fluttered just a bit as she offered her hand.

"Only the best things ever," she replied. "In fact, he told me that you're the one man I need to sweet talk into a favor."

Alcuin took her hand, and on a whim because he thought she might like it, brought it up to brush his lips lightly across her knuckles.

"If Jack sent you my way I dare say I will have trouble refusing," he said lightly before dropping her hand.

Dodge was used to the whole feeling of forgetfulness that went hand in hand with drugs. He wasn't sure what had happened at that last party exactly. He wasn't quite sure how he and Daphne had found their way home. He wasn't sure who that one glittery chick was. And he had a vague, shapeless memory of a beautiful man with white hair.

And the guy dancing had to be him.

Dodge watched him dance a little, head cocked to the side. He was amazing to watch and when the dance ended he figured it was only appropriate to clap.

"That was cool," he said.

Alcuin spun toward the voice, a smile already on his lips at the compliment, but it faltered a bit when he saw the young man there and was hit with an overwhelming sense of recognition. It was profoundly sensory, and for a moment he could almost feel tree bark digging into his bare back, and soft lips...

He shook away the half-memory. "Thank you," he said, and wondered if he ought to say anything else.

And that voice. He remembered that voice. He'd thought it sounded a bit like home, the accented English.

"We've met, haven't we?" he asked. "I'm Dodge, man. I could swear I know you from something."

Wordless at first, Alcuin nodded.

Then finally he moved closer and said, "The night of Maxxie's party. I'm afraid the night is a little fuzzy for me. I'm Alcuin." He offered his hand.

Nikola watched Alcuin, leaning against the doorway with a leer in his eye. Ah, this reminded him of Argentina, alcohol, music, heat and of course Helen. Slowly unbuttoning his waistcoat, Nikola rolled his sleeves up moving in time with the music towards Alcuin not saying a word yet. Nikola moved quick, striking with precision as he pressed his hand behind Alcuin and supported him as he dropped backwards.

Oh yes, Nikola could certainly show Antonio a thing or two about dancing. He'd had a wonderful partner teach him after all.

Alcuin knew as soon as Nikola touched him who it was, even without being able to see him yet. His posture, his scent, his movements.

The music was still playing, and so Alcuin spun gracefully to face Niola, falling back into a close tango hold, positioned to allow the other man to lead.

Nikola leaned his face close, looking heatedly at Alcuin before closing the gap between them into a close embrace. More Argentina than the typical tango. Sliding his hand firmly across his back, Nikola began to lead them through the tango steps keeping the pace in time with the music and never faltering for one moment.

"Caricias, pasada..." Nikola murmured, allowing for the intricate footwork and leading Alcuin through them. "This reminds me of my 'youth'."

"You're a good dancer." The only other person who had been able to lead Alcuin properly in a tango was the Doctor. "Clearly I should have been asking you to help me practice." At a pause in steps, when their bodies snapped together, Alcuin embellished by sliding his foot up Nikola's leg.
