Alcuin's ballroom dance class was in full swing, as it were. During his years here on the island, he had expanded his repertoire considerably beyond the styles he had learned in Terre d'Ange - everything originating in South America, for example, had been foreign to him (though did have some similarities to Aragonian styles he had seen). It was amazing what he had picked up in the years he had been here, however, from books and other island residents. In fact, as he walked into the rec room with this thought in mind, he remembered practicing the tango in this very room with the Doctor.

Of course, a great resource he had found to be the reels - it seemed that movies about dance were not uncommon, and on the rare occasions when he sat down to watch a film, it was often one of these. Today finding that no one in the rec room minded his intrusion, he found one of these to put on - and was pleased to find that it was actually a film about a dance instructor. Appropriate. Though as soon as he started watching it, he was rather glad that his students were not quite so... reluctant.

He was only paying partial attention to the screen, working as well on a set of equations that Nikola had left for him, however when a tango scene began, he was suddenly entirely attentive. It was beautiful. Technical. Sensual.

He got up from his seat, leaving his notebook there on the table, and turned the reel back to the beginning of the scene. This time as it played he stood in the middle of the room, following the steps with an invisible partner. First the part of the man leading, then of the woman following. It would have been much easier with a real partner, but for now he was simply trying to learn the steps. He must have been quite a sight, but at least he was a very good dancer, partner or no.
