There was one thing about this particular stretch of strangeness that Amy Pond knew without a doubt: it was extraordinarily cool. There was no use in arguing with her about the details, about how waking up being capable of doing something that you couldn’t do the day before might be alarming more than anything else. That wasn’t the point. The point ( Read more... )

Steve's power doesn't exactly equip him for combat. What it does allow him to do is grow things - plants, in particular, and his temporary green thumb extends that ability to all fruits and vegetables. While Danny's request for a garden seems a little overwhelming at first, it turns out to be just the thing he needs to keep himself occupied with everything else going on. There are others much more suited to fight than he is, and Danny would never forgive him for getting himself hurt the way he had down in Rapture. He spends the day plotting a garden instead, borrowing some seeds and herbs with the promise of returning them blossomed tenfold, and by the time the sun starts to set, he's got the start of something pretty substantial in the ground next to their hut, several rows of vegetables and herbs growing strong and the start of what will probably be pretty impressive fruit trees closer to the house. He wants to be able to pick fresh oranges in the morning to squeeze their juice, wants Danny to be able to use any herb when he ( ... )

Giving the fire a little bit of a prod, still more than slightly wrapped up their conversation Amy actually didn't notice that anyone else had been near their patch of beach until she heard the splash.

"Wait a tick, what was that?" she glanced at Buffy before glancing out to the water. It was getting a bit hard to see, the oncoming darkness turning everything into outlines and shadows. With a bit of a sigh, she summoned up a thought focusing on what she wanted which was namely to be able to see a bit better. Holding her hands above her head, she worked on picking at the light into making a spotlight which she shone onto the guy. "Can you tell who it is?"

It's hit or miss, this power that the island has bestowed upon Buffy. There are times when she can control it and times when she is powerless (ha, ha) over what turn her life's soundtrack might take. Presently, she's hoping that the pressure to perform won't guarantee a backdrop of cheesy tunes for their little show, but otherwise, she's in a decent enough mood. That mood lifts further yet when she does indeed recognize the man Amy has pointed out, and she feels genuinely pleased to see him. She also feels like teasing, and as soon as the comparison pops into her thoughts, it's impossible to let go. Suddenly, Steve is rising from the waves to The Cars' "Moving in Stereo."

The music is what draws his attention first, followed by the light, and Steve resurfaces, his eyes narrowing as he turns his gaze down the beach, toward the direction of both. He lifts a hand to his face, forming a makeshift visor to attempt to see past the glaring light shining directly on him, and then heads out of the water, walking over until he can make out at least one familiar face. "Didn't know there was a party going on out here," he adds, smiling briefly. "Hey, Buffy."

"Wee bit late f'r a party, innit?" Sean asks, squinting through the fading light along the beach when he hears recognizable voices. Normally, he wouldn't be one to speak up and interrupt, anyway, but while he won't admit it to himself, he's looking for an excuse to hold off on going home just yet. It's not that he doesn't want to, he just feels like such an awkward presence this weekend, with Meredith dealing with that brilliant and strangely beautiful power of hers, and him the same as ever. Not that he'd want one of the island's daft little abilities, not with how ridiculous the majority of them seem to be, but it's an easier thing to think than it is to actually believe.

He's already stopped at the Hub for a few drinks and much as he would truly like to, he can't justify any more, so a quick smoke on the beach and whatever it is that the girls are up to will just have to do for now.

"Oh, I dunno, is it?" Amy turned to look at Buffy shrugging her shoulders lightly. The more the merrier, after all and if Sean was going to turn up maybe it was the universe sending them someone who could actually start a proper fire out of nothing. It might be a fitting turn to the weekend.

"I didna ken it was. Come, join us, we're just having a little go of it with our mad powers."

Buffy is thrown off by the use of what she can only assume is British slang, and briefly, she considers breaking out the old valley girl dictionary. However, she quickly realizes that it's probably the kind of thing most fun when shared. "Any requests?" She asks Sean, having waved her greeting seconds ago. "I'm like a human radio now, minus the annoying commercials and commentary you don't care about."

Sean gives a quiet huff of laughter as he tamps down on another surge of completely irrational jealousy seeing as he doesn't particularly want mad powers, he wants his powers, and that was likely never an option. "D'ye have any country?"

Rory was tired. He hadn't exactly done anything helpful during the battle with Godzilla and bloody Mothra, of all things, due to the fact that most people couldn't or didn't get injured and there was some blonde woman wearing little healing those that did. Nothing physical had been done on his part, besides a bit of running around on the shore, but the day had been stressful enough as it was.

He followed the flash of firework, betting good mangoes that it would lead him to his wife, and low and behold, it did. He trudged along the beach in loose sand until he reached the two women, and plopped down beside Amy. "Hullo. Bit anti-climatic, isn't this?" he asked before pressing a light kiss to Amy's cheek. "Not that I'm complaining."

"Maybe."

It was decidedly anticlimatic, but Amy couldn't really be bothered by it. Of course it had been nice to have giant monsters from Japanese monster movies battling it out in the sea for a change, but sometimes you just needed to unwind. Muck about with one's mad powers. Give joking a go, that sort of thing.

Smiling at Rory, she looked back at Buffy. "What do you reckon? Anticlimatic or what?"

After waving to Rory, Buffy considers the question dramatically, hand to her chin and all. Anything that doesn't involve the world nearly ending is anticlimactic in her book, but even the most primal, slayer-y part of her has to appreciate that although decidedly less exciting, the anticlimactic tends to result in fewer dead bodies. "D'you think you could make a light dinosaur? Ooh, maybe in red, red always means trouble. And then I'll try to get in an action movie mood and maybe we can get the soundtrack for Jurassic Park going." A beat. "What constitutes an action movie mood?"

Rory mulled over this for a moment and came up with some uninspiring answers. Or rather ideas that he really, really hoped the two women wouldn't seize upon because they were rubbish and trouble, so he put a dismissive note into his voice. "Things blowing up. People screaming. Oh!" He changed his tune and expression suddenly, remembering a conversation from earlier.

"Maybe if we put a cape on you and blew some air in your direction. Or run along the beach in a Rocky montage."
