There was one thing about this particular stretch of strangeness that Amy Pond knew without a doubt: it was extraordinarily cool. There was no use in arguing with her about the details, about how waking up being capable of doing something that you couldn’t do the day before might be alarming more than anything else. That wasn’t the point. The point ( Read more... )

Steve's power doesn't exactly equip him for combat. What it does allow him to do is grow things - plants, in particular, and his temporary green thumb extends that ability to all fruits and vegetables. While Danny's request for a garden seems a little overwhelming at first, it turns out to be just the thing he needs to keep himself occupied with everything else going on. There are others much more suited to fight than he is, and Danny would never forgive him for getting himself hurt the way he had down in Rapture. He spends the day plotting a garden instead, borrowing some seeds and herbs with the promise of returning them blossomed tenfold, and by the time the sun starts to set, he's got the start of something pretty substantial in the ground next to their hut, several rows of vegetables and herbs growing strong and the start of what will probably be pretty impressive fruit trees closer to the house. He wants to be able to pick fresh oranges in the morning to squeeze their juice, wants Danny to be able to use any herb when he does the cooking, and even after this power goes away, the frequent rains will be enough to resume the growing where he'd left off.

Understandably, he's pretty beat by the time he decides to head out to the beach to take a dip, tired from the work and the use of his power. He's not even looking around to see if anyone else is occupying the same stretch of shoreline before he peels off his shirt, jumping in with his shorts still on and taking advantage of the cool water to rinse off the sweat and effort of the day.

Giving the fire a little bit of a prod, still more than slightly wrapped up their conversation Amy actually didn't notice that anyone else had been near their patch of beach until she heard the splash.

"Wait a tick, what was that?" she glanced at Buffy before glancing out to the water. It was getting a bit hard to see, the oncoming darkness turning everything into outlines and shadows. With a bit of a sigh, she summoned up a thought focusing on what she wanted which was namely to be able to see a bit better. Holding her hands above her head, she worked on picking at the light into making a spotlight which she shone onto the guy. "Can you tell who it is?"

It's hit or miss, this power that the island has bestowed upon Buffy. There are times when she can control it and times when she is powerless (ha, ha) over what turn her life's soundtrack might take. Presently, she's hoping that the pressure to perform won't guarantee a backdrop of cheesy tunes for their little show, but otherwise, she's in a decent enough mood. That mood lifts further yet when she does indeed recognize the man Amy has pointed out, and she feels genuinely pleased to see him. She also feels like teasing, and as soon as the comparison pops into her thoughts, it's impossible to let go. Suddenly, Steve is rising from the waves to The Cars' "Moving in Stereo."

The music is what draws his attention first, followed by the light, and Steve resurfaces, his eyes narrowing as he turns his gaze down the beach, toward the direction of both. He lifts a hand to his face, forming a makeshift visor to attempt to see past the glaring light shining directly on him, and then heads out of the water, walking over until he can make out at least one familiar face. "Didn't know there was a party going on out here," he adds, smiling briefly. "Hey, Buffy."

The song choice immediately sent Amy spiralling down into a fight of laughter. As her concentration was broken, the light dimmed turning into more of a dim flashlight. Oh well, it was bound to happen and she was more than keen with her knack for her new power after only a few days.

"Just a wee one," she called before waving. "Isn't that right, Buffy? And oh, are the pair of you friends then?"

"You should always party post near death experiences!" declares Buffy. As is only typical of her, the tone she adopts is one far less severe than the subject matter. If friends can't joke about fighting Godzilla and that bee monster - she really has to expand on her knowledge of Japanese movie monsters - then what can friends joke about? "So, as mutual friend, I guess I'm expected to do the polite introduction thing? Fine, if you insist. Steve, this is Amy; Amy, this is Steve."

"That's usually how it works," Steve replies, a tinge of amusement in his expression and tone alike as he reaches out a hand towards the unfamiliar face. "Nice to meet you, Amy. So, which one is responsible for the light show? Is that the same person behind the soundtrack to everyone's life, or are those not one and the same?"

"Nice to meet you too. But as you asked, I'm the light show," Amy pointed to herself before turning slightly and pointing to Buffy. "She's the soundtrack. We just happen to have a good thing going between the two of us."

It was really just fortunate that as friends they were able to get it to work out quite nicely. It'd probably be confusing if they were both part of the same power. Cool, but headache inducing.
