Humans were strange creatures. Such fragile, fleeting things that seemed to think that the entire universe revolved around them. It didn't, that was all to do with physics but it was also true in a way. The universe didn't revolve around them but the Endless did. Sort of. They were shaped by their thought, they were shaped by what they dreamed and ( Read more... )

I had gotten used to Del's cooking and while sometimes it left...well, a lot to be desired, the truth was I couldn't cook at all and anything Del made was about ten thousand times better than anything I could ever contemplate.

"Whatcha making?" I asked, brushing past her to go pay homage to the coffee gods.

Barnabas barked at Molly, wagging his tail as he paced around his human.

"Yes, yes, she is very nice." Del replied to Barnabas's bark, tongue sticking out at the corner of her mouth as she made what looked and smelled rather meaty. Turnng Del smiled and grinned at Molly. "Dog treats. Someone has been feeling neglected and been talking my ear off so he gets treats. I thought I would give them to Robb Stark too. Humans like treats, don't they?"

"Not dog treats," I pointed out. "But he's got one of those gigantic wolves, doesn't he? The wolf might like the treat and you know. Happy giant, bloodthirsty killer beast, happy master?"

I didn't really know the rules to that kind of thing considering Kote was my first boyfriend in, well, ever, but it sounded good to me.

"Oh, what sort of treats do humans like? I cannot give him just kisses," Delirium said. Although that would be very pleasant if she did. More than pleasant. It would be very peachy keen. "Direwolf. Yes, he does. And he's no more a giant, bloodthirsty killer beast than you or me. Maybe less. Hmmm. I could do that. What sort of things do you do to attract humans?"

Delirium cocked her head back.

"The sky, that is what is up. Did I pass?" Delirium asked grinning at him. Delirium turned her attention to the rather chaotic construction and added yet another sparkly. "If you were a human male, would you like this if I was courting you? I am building Robb Stark a bower, that is how the bower birds attract a mate."

Delirium tilted her head even further as if she was just realising that fact.

"Oh, oh yes. Huh, you are." Delirium said nodding. "It wouldn't be to live in, it would be to-oh, oh that's what birds use it for. Ice cream is a very personal choice, it has to be just right. But he is of the winter, maybe he would like the cold."

Priestly sniffs at the air of the kitchen a little as he swings around to the other side of the counter. "No offense, Del," he says, "because you know I'm a fan, but I'm not sure I'm going to be trying whatever that is you're working on today."

"That would be because you're a tall, talking humany person not a small, talking dog person." Delirium said, offering her palm out to Barnabas who sat up sniffed before taking a treat from her hand. Barnabas barked a greeting at Priestly before setting himself down waiting for his human. "I was going to give them to Robb Stark so he would kiss me again but I was told humans don't like dog treats. So, I can't give him that. I'm going to build him a bower instead."

Birds did that, she was sure humans would like it too.

"It's probably a good thing that dog food doesn't smell good then," says Priestly, "or I'd try to eat it. So what's this about Robb Stark kissing you? Do I need to go give him the talk?"

"I could make good smelling dog food but then it would be human food and then it wouldn't be good for the doggies." Delirium said tilting her head when Priestly made his last comment. "He kissed me, I kissed him. There was kissing. He's... everything good. What is the talk? Is it a fun talk? Can I have the talk? Will there be mini sandwiches? I like those talks or is that afternoon tea?"

"Heel. Heel."

The puppy was too busy following its nose to notice its new owner talking to him.

"This is your fault," Ray told Dief, pointing at the husky puppy and giving the wolf a stern look. "He's inherited your selective hearing. Go tell him to heel."

The parents were supposed to do the disciplining after all. Diefenbaker meandered over to the puppy and sniffed at it, said puppy's tail wagging faster.

"That's it?" Ray sighed and started undoing his tie. Dief barked, his job done. "Okay, that really is it. Your son's getting a leash." A make-shift one for now, anyway.

Delirium looked at Ray, eyes narrowing as he talked about leashes. Barnabas growled at the word and Del bent to give him a treat distracting him from Ray. Whistling sharply, Del held her hand flat out with treats in either palms for the puppy and for Dief.

Dief got there a lot faster than his mini-me. So fast, in fact, that he'd downed his treat and was homing in on the other in a flash. The puppy scampered along after him, not wanting to miss out on the fun.

Ray breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks. That's great, just keep him there for a sec," he asked, tying an adjustable loop in his tie and making sure there was enough left over for him to keep a hold of.

Delirium growled, plucking the puppy from Ray's reach and cradling him to her chest. Delirium snuffled, greeting the dog before feeding him the another treat seeing as Dief had taken both of them.

"Leashes are bad things Ray Vecchio." Delirium said scowling at him as she scratched the puppy's ear. "And you are not using a tie, you will pull and strangle him and I do not like dead doggies."

"Stop, please!" Starfire pleads as she chases a ball of barking white fur around the kitchen. All of her previous pleas have gone ignored, so she really doesn't expect much to come of them anymore. Asking politely obviously didn't work on puppies.

There is another dog in the kitchen, a seemingly well behaved dog who isn't running around as if being chased by an attacking grishnik. "How did you teach him to do that?" She asks. The dog isn't doing anything special, just sitting, but she's amazed all the same. The only time her dog was ever that still was when he was sleeping, and even then he was still very fidgety.

"I didn't teach him to do anything, he is a smart doggie." Delirium said, whistling to attract the dog's attention. Delirium palmed a dog treat and bending down to offer it to the small puppy. Delirium wouldn't give it until he sat so he would learn, like all doggies, quickly. "Come here smart puppy, you can have the treat if you Sit."

The puppy has other plans, ones that in no way involve sitting. Instead, he charges at the other dog, leaping and all around making a show of himself in order to get the older dog's attention. He barks, front quarters flattened to the ground, hind wiggling as he wagged his tail excitedly.

"Um... I have been informed that his father is deaf. Perhaps he inherited it?"

Barnabas tilted his head, taking a few steps back and making a noise at Delirium that sounded like arrghooo but was in fact 'Hey! Short stuff pack it in. Delirium, keep the kid in line.' Not that anyone but Delirium and maybe the Doctor understood that.

"okiES, Barnabas will do." Delirium said. Placing the treat in the vicinity of his nose, Delirium brought the treat towards her to try and gain the puppie's attention. "Deaf doggies can learn too, you just need to learn how to communicate."

Delirium looked up and then grinned at Starfire in recognition. "Ohohoh hiiii." It never got old looking at her whenever she came in.
