It's a goddamn beautiful day to play a little baseball. Danny's knee is decent, he's got the field in decent condition thanks to a lot of help from a lot of people, and everyone's on their best, what with all the practices they've been having. It's not about the winning, to Danny, though. It's just about getting to have some good times and hey, if ( Read more... )

It felt tremendous to be working on a team, again. The people she'd had to bring in to cover the spots left open by casualties of one kind or another had stepped up. The dynamic had changed, but it was going well. Their loss wasn't a bad one and their win was a crushing one, she couldn't ask for more. Maybe for one or two people to be there who weren't, anymore, but she was getting through it anyway.

She absently pulled one arm and then the other back over her head to stretch them and sauntered for the nearest bench to grab some lemonade and a towel.

"That was wonderful!" Starfire exclaims, hands clasps as she bounced excitedly on the balls of her feet once all games have come to an end. She's been up and moving the entire time, cheering the other teams on whenever she herself wasn't out on the field. It didn't matter to her which teams were victorious in the end, all that mattered was that everyone enjoyed themselves.

While Jonas had absorbed everything Danny had taught him about baseball, putting it into practice was much harder then the Kelownan had anticipated. While he could quote the rules verbatim, and he still wasn't sure Danny hadn't made up a few of his own in there, his coordination was another story all together.

But by the final game, Jonas felt like he'd gotten the hang of it. When he finally hit something, his grin had been as bright as it had ever been, even though the ball ended up being a foul ball.

Lipton drew up beside his team member, giving him a friendly clap on the shoulder. He hadn't known the man all that well prior to the games, but Jack O'Neill was one of his closest friends around here, so they'd been aquaintances.

"Hey, you ended up doing pretty good." Lipton smiled, not teasing or sarcastic but honestly congratulating.

"Hey thanks, Carwood!" Jonas said brightly, still amazed how much fun that had been, his eyes wide like a kid's. "You were great out there. Everyone was. I didn't realize this game was so much fun!"

"Thanks," he said with a broad smile, well aware of his own lack of skill at the game, but luckily you didn't have to be quite the savant that Buck Compton had been to have a good time. "Sure, that's why it's called America's pastime. Hey, if you don't mind me asking," it was an odd question to ask, but one prompted by Jonas' unfamiliarity with the game and his own friendly curiosity, "are you, like Teal'c, from somewhere up there?" He nodded to the sky, hoping that was less rude than any other way he could think of in asking if Jonas was from another planet. He'd never been great with words, but he somehow felt that the term 'alien' wasn't all that diplomatic.

Used to be, Easy Company's dozen or so representatives on the island were mainstays at the baseball games - Buck wouldn't hear of it any other way. This wasn't the sort of day to get maudlin about being the only one left around here, though - every once and awhile he still turned around expecting to see Luz or Babe, but for the most part the sun was shining, people were laughing, hooting and hollering, and it was a grand old time. He wasn't really all that good at baseball, but he was strong and a good runner, so at least he wasn't an embarassment to his team. His real talents were in cheering on the other guys and ladies, anyway, and he was entirely okay with his lot in life, or baseball, as the case may be, in that respect.

Sean isn't playing, isn't spectating, and in fact, has no interest whatsoever in baseball these days when he's got far more important things with which to occupy his thoughts. One might find his behaviour somewhat contradictory to this as he eventually makes his way over to the baseball diamond in between drinks to find everything winding down, but, well, it isn't as if he has to explain himself to anybody. He doesn't have to care to be curious. "So how'd the games go?" he asks of the nearest person, only once he's pretty sure that Rogue won't spot him and get on his case for blowing off his old team.

Lipton turned, ready with a friendly smile for the newcomer. "Ah, pretty good. Some wins and losses all around - teams are pretty well matched, I guess."

"Good, that's... good," Sean says, nodding. Seeing as, from what he's heard, he's been replaced by Captain bloody America, he wasn't particularly worried, but it's still nice to have confirmation.

About this thing that he doesn't care about in the slightest. Right.

"Nae that I'd expec' otherwise, o' course."
