It's a goddamn beautiful day to play a little baseball. Danny's knee is decent, he's got the field in decent condition thanks to a lot of help from a lot of people, and everyone's on their best, what with all the practices they've been having. It's not about the winning, to Danny, though. It's just about getting to have some good times and hey, if ( Read more... )

Used to be, Easy Company's dozen or so representatives on the island were mainstays at the baseball games - Buck wouldn't hear of it any other way. This wasn't the sort of day to get maudlin about being the only one left around here, though - every once and awhile he still turned around expecting to see Luz or Babe, but for the most part the sun was shining, people were laughing, hooting and hollering, and it was a grand old time. He wasn't really all that good at baseball, but he was strong and a good runner, so at least he wasn't an embarassment to his team. His real talents were in cheering on the other guys and ladies, anyway, and he was entirely okay with his lot in life, or baseball, as the case may be, in that respect.

Sean isn't playing, isn't spectating, and in fact, has no interest whatsoever in baseball these days when he's got far more important things with which to occupy his thoughts. One might find his behaviour somewhat contradictory to this as he eventually makes his way over to the baseball diamond in between drinks to find everything winding down, but, well, it isn't as if he has to explain himself to anybody. He doesn't have to care to be curious. "So how'd the games go?" he asks of the nearest person, only once he's pretty sure that Rogue won't spot him and get on his case for blowing off his old team.

Lipton turned, ready with a friendly smile for the newcomer. "Ah, pretty good. Some wins and losses all around - teams are pretty well matched, I guess."

"Good, that's... good," Sean says, nodding. Seeing as, from what he's heard, he's been replaced by Captain bloody America, he wasn't particularly worried, but it's still nice to have confirmation.

About this thing that he doesn't care about in the slightest. Right.

"Nae that I'd expec' otherwise, o' course."

It was an accent he hadn't heard often, but occasionally through the ETO. Even more so in Aldbourne, but even there he hadn't come across many soldiers, officers or civilians with an Irish accent.

"Cheering for any team in particular?" Lipton asked helpfully, pretty sure he'd seen the guy playing on one of the teams that Buck had put together.

"Cheerin' is such a strong word," Sean deadpanned, still carefully keeping an eye out for anyone he might know. "More like jus' checkin' in on the old one. Used ta play wi' Rogue an' that lot."

Lipton chuckled at that. "Ah. You were coerced into it too, huh?" It was lucky that he'd never been that opposed to playing, because Buck would not take no for an answer. He'd barely been on the island half and hour and the guy had already given him a position. "Pretty intimidating team."

"That's one way o' puttin' it, aye," Sean says with a slightly (only slightly, mind) amused scoff. "Nice ta see there're at least some things ye c'n rely on 'round here." Just the ones that don't really matter.

"Well, sorry I can't give you any more recon on them than that." He said, sticking his hands in his trouser pockets. He wore shorts on his morning runs and to task force training, but he got the feeling that they were pretty far out of style for anything except PT around here.

"Ah, 'm sure I'll go somehow," Sean replies, shrugging easily. "Jus' have ta do a bit o' snoopin' meself if'n I truly care that much. Thanks, anyhow."
