Ever since the snow ended, there had been a bit of an extra spring to Bill's step, and it wasn't because of the return to normal island weather. Ron was on the island

Charlie's spent some time in the office this afternoon with Cadi in her basket and now she's got the bab on her shoulder, walking into the kitchen with her wet hair in a twist. She'll grab something to eat, she'll take Cadi home and they'll all go to bed.
It's kind of sad how much she looks forward to going to bed.
Bill grabbed a plate as he gave Charlie a rundown of the menu. "Boar burgers, and I swear you can hardly tell the difference, crab cakes, veggies, salad, banana nut muffins. What can I get you?"
Max has spent most of the day searching, when he wasn't being made to bathe and go to class. If there are dragons then there are monsters. And if there are probably monsters then there's probably a way back home. Just because the grown ups don't know where it is, doesn't mean it's not there. Grownups don't know all sorts of things. So far, nothing but he'll find it. It's started to get dark by the time he's run back out of the jungle, bypassing where he lives altogether for the compound. There are way more beasts to hunt, there. Sure enough, it only takes a minute to find his latest victim. He stalks the mangy beast into the compound and makes his attack, crashing into people as it runs for the kitchen, clearly drawn in by the smell of food. Its first mistake. He lets out a roar as he crashes in, running around the table in pursuit.
Bill was happy to help or answer questions about what he'd made as needed, but for the most part, people served themselves. That meant he was able to sit and work in relative peace - that was, until Max came tearing through.
"Oi!" Bill called, more authoritativeness in his tone than volume. "Max. Dial it back a bit when you're inside, all right?"
"No!" Max shouts, stomping his feet as hard as he can before lunging for the beast. He's tired of being told what to do and none of these people are his mom or his sister or even KW. This place is stupid and he's tired of it.
"I'm chasing a dangerous beast and if I don't capture it, it's going to eat all the other children. Especially Lissie."
"Chasing a dangerous beast, are you?" Bill said, raising his eyebrows. "Well, you'd better get on with it, then, before the pair of you destroy the entire kitchen."
Coraline was eating. Not a lot but she was eating which was a start. Coraline had a little bit of everything on her plate and was carefully picking at it as she tried it. Coraline was confused; classes were hard, life was even harder and to make matters worse her close friend Luke was apparently a murderous villain. Coraline didn't know what to do about that if it was true which she really hoped it wasn't.
Sighing, Coraline looked up and watched Bill as he whistled. She wished everything could be that easy but it wasn't and she wasn't sure how to make it easy again. Pulling out her notebook, Coraline hummed along with Bill as she began to concentrate on her homework. Percy was Wrong, he just had to be. Luke was too good a kisser to be a villain.
"Eighteen," Coraline replied not looking up from her section of spellings. Coraline could certainly have rivalled Hermione Granger for being keen about school and lessons and Coraline didn't even have a time turner to help. Coraline finished the page before she looked up at Bill. "I already dropped one though and um, I don't think I'm supposed to go back to the other."
Abby had been very fond of hugs for the last week. Every time she saw a friend, she hugged them, usually more than once. It was her own way of reassuring herself and them that she was still here.
She breezed into the kitchen for her usual Friday night date and immediately wrapped Bill in a big hug.
Suddenly finding himself with his arms full of Abby was never a bad thing, and Bill hugged her back without hesitation, pulling her close. "Hey," he replied, and pressed a kiss to her temple.
That was the kind of person Bill was. She gave him a hug and he saw her hug and raised it a kiss, which made her smile against his shoulder. Eventually she had to let him go, though, so she did.

"Hi," she said unnecessarily.
