Dairine is good with parties where all she has to do is show up and bring Spot. She'd even told a few other people--okay, so one was her boyfriend, but that totally counts--and if that just isn't a weird concept, that Dairine Callahan can drag total strangers to a party.

But you have to do something, and it feels like it's been ages since she got to hang out with Kon like normal people hang out (because they're really good at this normal business, really honestly).

Besides, there are hot dogs. Or something resembling them but probably way healthier, and made from stuff on the island. Like with real hot dogs, Dairine doesn't ask.

I smiled to see Dairine here. It had been far too long. I nudged her. "Hey, you! How have you been?"

"Good." Dairine swallows the last of the hot-dog-like-thing and drags a hand sheepishly across her mouth. "Crazy busy, for somebody on a magic island with no job, but whatever. How 'bout you?"

"I've been spending a lot of time being busy as well," I said. "Time at the children's office and the preschool. Time behind the desk at the IPD." I grinned. "Time with my boyfriend."

One of the problems with having a guy like Kon as your best friend meant that when there was a party to be had, attendance was never optional. Actually, Kon never took no for an answer, really. And it wasn't like he had anything better to do. He just felt a bit at loose ends. The people he knew here were either already practically family or very new.

And he really sucked at the whole social thing. Unlike food. That he knew what to do with.

Juliet always liked to notice when people looked a little out of sorts. She prided herself on being friendly and she definitely wanted to at least say hello to people, being an unofficial welcoming person as she liked to think of herself. "Hey," she greeted brightly, holding out a drink to the young man. "Want some company?"

Bart blinked. He'd been thinking about what he was supposed to be doing. Which made it harder to think, really. He'd gone surfing, he'd had enough food that he was pretty sure the description of 'stuffed' actually had meaning now, but he still didn't know what to do.

"If I said I wasn't sure, would that seem insulting?" he had to ask. "It's just...my best friend thought I should meet folks. So he arranged...this. I'm trying to remember the last time I was even in a place with this many people I couldn't at least call by name."

"Well," Juliet said, shifting her drink to her other hand so that she could reach her main one out for shaking. "I'm Juliet," she introduced herself. "And you've met me. I'm pretty sure I'm folk, even!"

Kon had told Cissie about the party and given that he'd been practically bouncing like a puppy, she had no choice but to gear up in support of one of her closest friends. Besides, if she didn't go, Kon would just throw her over his shoulder and carry her there forcibly.

She surveyed the scene, clad in shorts and a bikini top and her hair pulled up in a high ponytail. Did she want to go for the food first or a swim? There was dancing too, she couldn't forget that either.

Feeling at ease with everything for a change, she smiled thoughtfully as she considered her options.

Bart couldn't help making a wolf-whistle at Cissie's attire. Besides, she really did look good. And almost comfortable.

"I see the clothing box likes you," he said. He, on the other hand, had finally decided that given the choice between swim trunks in red with a flash logo tiled on it or something blindingly bright, he'd go with something that wouldn't cause brain damage. And a Coast City Lifeguard t-shirt, too. Almost made him homesick sometimes.

Cissie spun around when she heard the whistle, rolling her eyes once she realized it was Bart. "Oh don't even start that, mister. I'll dunk you in the ocean, don't think I won't!"

At the comment, she shrugged, feeling a bit embarrassed. "For right now, which makes me kinda nervous. I see it thought you needed a Flash bathing suit. That's not too bad, is it?"

"Would you want it to keep giving you stuff with little arrows on it?" Bart pointed out. "This was the best of the lot. And actually, I've been dunked in the ocean. In my uniform. I was running on water when I arrived. Had to swim to shore."

Alexis always liked meeting new people, so when she'd heard about the party for newbies she knew she definitely wanted to go to that. She especially wanted to meet people her age, so she was hoping a lot of them would show up.

She'd gotten Cooper to come with her, since she figured he could stand to meet some more people as well, and naturally she wanted to spend time with him. They'd been mingling, but now he was over getting them food and Alexis, wearing her tankini with a pair of shorts thrown over, was debating whether or not she wanted to try surfing.

"Here," says Cooper, holding out two plates of food. He's got his shirt tucked into the back of his waistband; it's too nice a day to be fully clothed. He grins at her, leans down to kiss the corner of her mouth. He's getting mroe and more used to this whole set up.

"Having fun?"

"Thanks, Coop," Alexis said, taking one of the plates. It was going to be hard not to be completely distracted by the fact that he was shirtless.

"Yeah. I'm glad you came with me," she said, nodding, then looked back over at the surfboards she'd been contemplating. "Have you ever been surfing?"

He's sort of just picking at his food. He's cared up some alcohol before they arrived and he's got a comfortable buzz going on, ands he looks gorgeous, and, really, there's nothing to complain about.

"Once or twice," he says. "I mean, I'm from Ohio."

Even after all this time, parties made Anatoly nervous. But he had promised Kon he would come by for at least a little bit, and he didn't want to disappoint his quasi-son.

As he nibbled on a hot dog, he watched the crowd. It seemed to be going well from what he could see. He felt terribly out-of-place, but there was no one to blame for that but himself. As soon as he finished, he was going to dip his toes in the metaphorical water and mingle. He was capable of that, really he was.

Since he could Anatoly was nervous, Lex was never far away. Oh he gave Anatoly privacy when he went to dance with one of the many teenagers he'd adopted but otherwise he was right at his Russian's side. "Relax Tolya..." He murmured softly into Anatoly ear as he placed a hand on the other man's back. "No one is going to talk to you when you look like your in pain." He teased lightly.

"I don't look that bad, do I?" Anatoly asked, leaning comfortably against Lex. "And surely, don't I get some sort of credit for coming without arguing?"

He was trying to do better at this social thing, he truly was, but a part of him always longed for the comfort of the chess. It was rather hard to say the wrong thing or embarrass himself during a game, after all.

Lex couldn't help a small laugh as he gave Anatoly a small kiss on the cheek. "Yes you get a lot of credit with Kon I'm sure. And I promise to make it up to you later." It did mean a lot that Anatoly supported Kon, even when they hadn't been together. "Now, what do I have to do later to get you to dance with me?"
