There were a lot of sounds on the island to get used to. There are loud birds, and weird growls and sometimes music and even machinery. There's a really, really distinctive sound of someone falling down a mountain, however, that catches Kate's attention.
"Shit," she hisses, before hoisting Sam a little higher on her back. His legs kick happily against her kidneys from his pack as she veers off the path.
"Hello?" she calls, gingerly stepping through the dense shrubbery.
Flopping back in the grass, Lennox groaned in pain as he heard Kate coming closer, then lifted his hand to wave her over. His ankle was throbbing, but he figured maybe if he just stayed there for awhile, the pain would go away and he'd be able to walk. Maybe.
"Hey, I'm over here," he called from where he was lying. "I'm okay."
Sam doesn't seem too worried about Jim sprawled out on the jungle floor. In fact, he shifts up and eagerly thrusts his arm out in Jim's direction. "Jim!" he chirps, until the dogs catch his eye. "Dog!"
Kate huffs out a laugh before crouching down next to him. "Did you just fall down that hill? Jesus."
"Maybe," Lennox said, wincing as he tried to prop himself up on an elbow. His shoulder hurt almost as much as his ankle, but at least he didn't need his shoulder for walking. "I guess I just slipped or something. I don't even have a good excuse, I'm just clumsy, baby," he said, laughing.
All her life, it's been the same: it's like she has a sixth sense for when he does something stupid. She catches a glimpse of him through the trees. Eddie's spending the morning with Dill, so Lil's got Emmy and the dog, and they all make their way towards Lennox through the trees.
"What've you done to yourself?" she asks, frowning in such a way that the word idiot is very, very loud, even if it is unspoken.
"Fell," Lennox groaned with a little more drama than was necessary. If anyone on the island would feel at least a little bit sorry for him (even while giving him a hard time), it was Lily. "I was walking the dogs and I guess I stepped on a loose rock or something and I fell."
He sat up, though, rubbing his shoulder uncomfortably. "Am I glad to see you."
Lily huffs her hair out of her eyes and squats down in front of him. For once, she's glad not to have Dylan in her arms. She's got a feeling that she could do with both hands right now.
"My ankle, I think," Lennox answered, still rubbing his shoulder. "I hit my shoulder, too, but it's probably just gonna be bruised. And I don't need it for walking."
He was sure nothing was broken, which was good, but that didn't make walking any easier.
The dogs were enough reason to stay away but when Danica heard the swearing and the undeniable pain in a man's voice, well, that was too much to resist.
Stilettoed but in no danger of falling herself, she idly approached and peered down at the man trying to get up. Watching was all she did. Where was popcorn when she needed it?
Lennox continued to lay on his back, his eyes up toward where he'd fallen and he could see someone watching him. She didn't seem too inclined to help, though, and he thought if he just let the pain fade, he'd probably be okay, so he just stared back.
Then, after a few moments, he wiggled two fingers into his pocket and found the joint he'd been looking for. "Got a light?" he asked dryly, not really expecting an answer.
"Yes," Danica replied disinterestedly, slipping her hands into the pockets of her dress to draw attention to the shape of a lighter inside the fabric. "You look like a wino who's done us all a favor and crawled out into the bushes to die."
Robin heard the sounds, but wasn't exactly sure what was going on. She set down the dog food that she'd been carrying and ventured off in the direction of the sound. "Hello?" she tried, eyes darting around until they landed on Lennox, just sprawled out like he was. "Is this a relaxing thing or should I be worrying?" she asked as she picked up the pace to get to his side.
"I fell," he said in explanation, because he knew it was good luck that someone had come along. There was always a good chance no one would have heard him and he would have ended up lying in the grass all day, trying to get someone's attention. "I think I sprained my ankle," he added, struggling to sit up.
Robin winced with sympathy as she crouched down beside him, trying not to get her jeans too dirty, offering both hands to him. "Wanna give it a try or should I go all Hulk style and try and carry you over my back?" she asked, raising a finger as if to make a point. "Fun fact, one of those things won't be so successful."
"How about we give it a few more minutes before I try to get up, because it still hurts a hell of a lot," Lennox suggested, giving her a grin. He managed to sit up and then rubbed his shoulder. "I think I hit my arm on something on the way down, too."
Having caught a glimpse of the fall while jogging, Bryce made an immediate change in direction, aided by the cries of the two dogs.
"Hey man," he called, slowing to a near halt when he finally reached the man. Bryce, who was by no means a doctor, knew he might not be much help, but he knelt down all the same. If nothing else, he could help the other man to the clinic. "You alright?"
"I'm good," Lennox said with a wave of his hand, although he knew that was a lie and he was pretty sure he wasn't going to fool anyone else. He was lucky, really, that someone had been passing by.
"Actually, no, I'm kinda hurt, but I'm not dying, I promise," he admitted, sitting up with something between a grimace and a grin.
"Maybe eventually with the help of a cane," Lennox said with a small grin, reaching up to rub his shoulder uncomfortably. His ankle hurt, but he thought maybe he could stand with some help. "I think I hit my shoulder, too, but at least I don't need that to walk, right?"

"I caught a few seconds of that fall," he offer as explanation. "Needless to say, it didn't look so good. Can you stand?"
