There were a lot of sounds on the island to get used to. There are loud birds, and weird growls and sometimes music and even machinery. There's a really, really distinctive sound of someone falling down a mountain, however, that catches Kate's attention.
"Shit," she hisses, before hoisting Sam a little higher on her back. His legs kick happily against her kidneys from his pack as she veers off the path.
"Hello?" she calls, gingerly stepping through the dense shrubbery.
Flopping back in the grass, Lennox groaned in pain as he heard Kate coming closer, then lifted his hand to wave her over. His ankle was throbbing, but he figured maybe if he just stayed there for awhile, the pain would go away and he'd be able to walk. Maybe.
"Hey, I'm over here," he called from where he was lying. "I'm okay."
Sam doesn't seem too worried about Jim sprawled out on the jungle floor. In fact, he shifts up and eagerly thrusts his arm out in Jim's direction. "Jim!" he chirps, until the dogs catch his eye. "Dog!"
Kate huffs out a laugh before crouching down next to him. "Did you just fall down that hill? Jesus."
"Maybe," Lennox said, wincing as he tried to prop himself up on an elbow. His shoulder hurt almost as much as his ankle, but at least he didn't need his shoulder for walking. "I guess I just slipped or something. I don't even have a good excuse, I'm just clumsy, baby," he said, laughing.
"Yeah, well, I don't think you're going to fit in Sam's pack," she says, grinning down at him as she unhooks Sam. She's sure as hell not going to be able to carry Sam and prop up a grown-ass man. "Did you hit your head? I'm going to be pretty pissed if you stroke out on me."
Sitting up, Lennox reached up and felt his head lightly, trying to figure out if he'd hit his head on the way down. "I don't think so," he said, frowning faintly. "I think I'd feel it, right? Just my shoulder and my ankle hurt. No strokes or concussions or anything."
"Well, at least we have that," Kate murmurs, running her hand around his head just to check for herself. "You don't seems to be leaking anything important."
Sam, now free of his restraints, toddles over to Jim and pats him on the face. "Hi," he says as he starts tugging on his shirt.
"Hi," Lennox said back, although he really hoped that Sam wasn't about to start hopping all over him. His shoulder ached a lot, but he'd probably let Sam do it anyway, no matter how much it hurt. "Uncle Jim had an accident and fell down."
"Ow," Lennox agreed with a wince, but the pain seemed to be wearing off his shoulder. Just his ankle hurt now. "Times like these, I wish I had a dogsled so these oafs could pull me back to the Compound."
"Yeah, well, I'm still waiting till I can do that with Sam," Kate says, grunting a little as she pulls him up to sit straight. "You think you can stand up if I help? Anything going to fall off?"?
"Just taking the dogs for a walk," Lennox said with a small grin. "I guess I should have been watching where I was going a little bit better, but Hal barked at something and I just... fell over."
"Well hell, I guess we shouldn't let you go places by yourself," she says, carefully bumping his shoulder with hers. "You can borrow Sam if you need a guide. Low center of gravity keeps him upright."
Sam perks up at the mention of his name and starts to try and crawl into Jim's lap.
Lennox gave another laugh and shook his head, even as he carefully took Sam into his lap. His shoulder felt a lot better, but the ankle was what hurt. "Then I would've just taken your son down the side of the mountain with me. Probably not the best idea."
"Shit," she hisses, before hoisting Sam a little higher on her back. His legs kick happily against her kidneys from his pack as she veers off the path.
"Hello?" she calls, gingerly stepping through the dense shrubbery.
