Throwing a party was a lot more work than Logan had anticipated, and he found himself grateful for a change that Jack had so many friends. Decorating wasn't so bad, and it went by faster with the help of Prior and Maureen, but food... Well, anyone who had ever tasted Logan's attempts at anything other than pancakes or bacon would be glad to know ( Read more... )

Leaving Jack's side to let the other man go make his usual party rounds, Logan had moved to sit on the edge of the stage. The party had been going well, and Joe had been awesome during his set, but now Logan had Jack's record player out on the porch of their hut, playing music he knew Jack loved just loud enough to be background noise ( ... )

Jack was sneaky and circled around to catch Logan from behind. He wrapped his arms around his husband's waist and pressed a kiss to his neck. Even through the kiss, he was smiling.

"I love you for this," he said, just loud enough for Logan to hear. "I love you for a lot of reasons, but this is fantastic. Thank you."

Logan tensed, but only for a moment. He knew who it was before Jack even spoke, and he relaxed into the other man's arms and smiled just a little. ...As if he hadn't been scowling just a moment ago.

"It's not a big deal," he assured the other man. "I just wanted to do something for you. Four years is a long time- and I like reminding you how old you are," he teased.

"Oh, thanks," Jack smirked, pressing another kiss to Logan's neck before he let go enough to step around and face the younger man.

"Don't even pretend you don't like it. And yours will be here soon enough. You're getting older, too."

It still felt awkward being at parties like these. Unlike the gatherings at Camp Half Blood, everybody was so much older.

But Jack was a friend, who'd helped me build the doghouse for Mrs. O'Leary. I felt I owed it to him to show up.

And I hoped Annabeth could come too. Not just because I could use the friendly company. Yeah. What with her plans to build her own hut, perhaps a conversation with Jack and the building crew was in order. I should probably introduce her to him...

...though I wondered if that was a good idea.

"He's a friend of yours?" Annabeth asked, suddenly appearing by Percy's side. She might not have the magic of her Yankees cap anymore, but she was still pretty adept at moving about undetected - probably the result of years using said cap, which didn't muffle any noise she made.

It was weird for her, being on the island. For a long while back home, it seemed as though her life had been completely intertwined with Percy's. Here, he had his own sets of friends and his own activities and habits, and she almost felt like a stranger.

Not to mention the fact that there was so much he didn't know, things she wanted to tell him but couldn't. Knowing the future was never a good thing - but for people like him, especially. Percy would try to change future, if he could.

No need to tell him how many casualties they'd had, either.

Annabeth is different but she pretends otherwise, casting a surveying glance at the people milling about.

Even after separated for almost nine months, I was still used to Annabeth's ability to appear out of nowhere, Yankees cap or no. Still, I jumped a little for effect, and I couldn't help but smile.

"He's a friend of practically everybody, as far as I can tell," I said. "He seemed to have an interesting life before he came here, too; a lot of space travel; I think he's something of an agent. Anyway, he helped build Mrs. O'Leary's doghouse. He's pretty active in the building committee."

She rolled her eyes, smacking him lightly on the shoulder. "You don't have to pretend if you're not surprised. Being aware of your surroundings is a good thing."

Annabeth perked up at the mention of 'building committee', having finished her blueprint the other day. It was nothing extravagant, but it was functional and looked pretty good too, in her opinion. "Which one is he?"

A thought came to mind and she pulled him aside, leaning in to mutter quietly, so only he could hear. "How many people have you told about us being demigods?"

A party would be just the thing to take my mind off... things. And it would be good to catch up with Jack once again. It had been too long since we'd talked. He'd been busy, as had I. Interesting that this was possible on an Island of only 400 people, but there you go.

I grabbed my glass of mango juice from the bar, and smiled as I looked out towards the crowd.

Jack was making his rounds and as he passed Polly he did a quick pivot, caught her around the waist, and planted a chaste kiss on her cheek.

"Hello, beautiful," he said with a dashing smile. "What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?"

Either he was getting bolder, or I was getting more susceptible to his flirts, or both. I couldn't help laughing and I felt my cheeks blush. If he wasn't married...

I managed to compose myself quickly. "Wishing a good friend a very happy birthday," I said, raising my glass.

"Oh, well then...I guess we'll let you stick around," Jack teased. "Thank you for that. I'm really happy you came. Are you having a nice time?"

Ever since Jane Bennett had decreed the day he arrived on the island to be Jack's birthday, he had had a party. It was Helen's islandversary, too- a fact that they had discussed many times as being a strange and fortuitous coincidence. This was the first year Logan had thrown him a party and it had been a bit of a surprise. He'd been thinking it would just be a small get together. Maybe a few friends. Something quiet.

Clearly not.

He circulated through the crowd, smiling at everyone and talking to them, offering his thanks for their coming. He loved parties, that was no secret. He kept sneaking glances at Logan all through the thing. No matter who he talked to or who he danced with, Jack knew who he needed to thank the most.

Jane knew that she could hardly ignore such a day and while she had very little to give save for the bouquet of flowers, she wished to attend. Clad in a shorter blue dress of a more modern style, she appeared before Jack, presenting the flowers to him. "And how old are you now?" she asked, sunny and happy.

"I'm four," Jack grinned, leaning in to kiss her chastely on the cheek. "And I act like it as often as I can. How are you Jane? I'm so glad you came."

"Four. Twice Lydia's age!" she announced with great delight, leaning into his kiss and wishing to return his affection as greatly as she could. "I'm well, Jack. Quite well, but today is not a day for me," she promised, knowing that she wished to come and commemorate his day. "Here, Jack, these are for you," she spoke, extending the bouquet of flowers to him.

Things that attracted Robin: bright colors, food and a party. All three were available at the current locale. He'd snuck by a few times before, just learning the lay of the island, peering into the settlement with curious green eyes from just out of the lights of the place in the night. Now, in the light of day, Goodfellow threw caution to the wind and approached the party with eyebrows drawn into a vee of confusion.

"Happy Birthday, Jack," he repeated the words off of the sign slowly, testing for flavor. "Jack who?"

"Jack Harkness," he said, overhearing a birthday wish and turning toward the voice. "Anniversary on the island and assigned birthday. Any excuse for a party," he laughed as he offered his hand.

"Jack you," Robin amended, first staring at Jack's face with an appraising sort of look and then turning that same look to the hand held out for him to take. "So you're the birthday boy? Have you got your spankings yet?" He looked over his shoulder for a second before lifting Jack's hand and giving it, instead of a firm shake, a firm kiss on the palm before letting go again. He smirked broadly.

"That suggests one needs an excuse for a party. I beg to differ."

"I'll get my spankings later. Probably more than I deserve," he ginned, his voice a little lower so the whole crowd didn't hear the exchange- not that anyone was listening. He looked down at his hand and licked his lips. It had been quite some time since anyone had been forward with him. He was used to making the first move...and that was before Logan.

"Where have you been hiding?" he asked warmly. "The parties here need more men like you around."
