Throwing a party was a lot more work than Logan had anticipated, and he found himself grateful for a change that Jack had so many friends. Decorating wasn't so bad, and it went by faster with the help of Prior and Maureen, but food... Well, anyone who had ever tasted Logan's attempts at anything other than pancakes or bacon would be glad to know ( Read more... )

Leaving Jack's side to let the other man go make his usual party rounds, Logan had moved to sit on the edge of the stage. The party had been going well, and Joe had been awesome during his set, but now Logan had Jack's record player out on the porch of their hut, playing music he knew Jack loved just loud enough to be background noise.

Jack seemed to be enjoying himself, and that was enough to make Logan believe it was a good party. He wasn't a fan of them usually, but this one was for Jack, so he would tolerate it.

Quietly he sipped one of the beers Ianto had donated to the cause, taking in the crowd and looking thoughtful. He couldn't help but be a little envious sometimes when he saw how many people were willing to pull together and do something for Jack, and he frowned just a little as he looked down at his feet.

He was glad Jack was having a good time, and he wasn't going to fuck it up by being his usual insecure and agitated self. At least that's what he kept telling himself every time he thought he might just slip off into the hut and leave them all to it.

Wetting his lips, he finished his beer and stopped watching Jack, leaving his husband to dance with and do what he wanted. It was only once a year- or, okay, a few times a year, since parties popped up all the time, but still. It wasn't a huge deal, and Logan knew he had to curb his jealousy, at least for the evening.

Jack was sneaky and circled around to catch Logan from behind. He wrapped his arms around his husband's waist and pressed a kiss to his neck. Even through the kiss, he was smiling.

"I love you for this," he said, just loud enough for Logan to hear. "I love you for a lot of reasons, but this is fantastic. Thank you."

Logan tensed, but only for a moment. He knew who it was before Jack even spoke, and he relaxed into the other man's arms and smiled just a little. ...As if he hadn't been scowling just a moment ago.

"It's not a big deal," he assured the other man. "I just wanted to do something for you. Four years is a long time- and I like reminding you how old you are," he teased.

"Oh, thanks," Jack smirked, pressing another kiss to Logan's neck before he let go enough to step around and face the younger man.

"Don't even pretend you don't like it. And yours will be here soon enough. You're getting older, too."

"That's true, our relationship gets less inappropriate every year," Logan grinned. Though really, there had never been anything wrong with their difference in age. No, if there was anything inappropriate about there relationship, that was not it.

His hands moved to rest on Jack's hips, and he let the smile fade just a little. "Is it wrong that I get a little more freaked out with every anniversary?" he asked. "Four years... Not too many people last this long. It'll be four years for me as well in a month."

"I know. Did you ever think we'd be among the veterans?" he laughed. "As time goes by it seems like less and less of the old guard are around."

"I don't want to think about it," Logan replied, slipping his arms around Jack's shoulders.

"Just dance with me. I was good, I waited my turn."

"You're always good," Jack said, walking them closer to the record player so he could dance with Logan to a slow Benny Goodman tune.

"I love that you did this for me. I know how you are about parties, but I appreciate it. I really do."

"Well I can't let everyone else keep throwing you parties, you might forget me," Logan murmured, moving slowly with Jack to the music.

"Besides, they can have you now- I know I get you later. ...And tomorrow, and the day after that."

"Always," Jack agreed softly, brushing his lips against Logan's. He didn't care who saw. Anyone who didn't know he loved his husband was an idiot and anyone who didn't know that Jack thrived on physical contact- well, they probably hadn't met him.

Logan hesitated slightly, still a little strange about showing affection in public, but quickly got over it as he returned the kiss and held on tighter.

"So what do you want for your birthday?" he asked as he broke the kiss. "Name it, and it's yours."

I want a date. A real date. You and me...you take care of everything. We can go to our beach and swim and lay in the sand. Build another sandcastle...thing. Sand lump," he laughed. "We can spend all day at the beach. That sounds like a good gift."

"Alright, but that means taking time out of your busy schedule to spend a whole day with me," Logan warned.

"It's not so busy anymore. Since Helen gave me the key to the club I decided I'd better quit teaching. Just the ITF, the Club, and you. You kept telling me I needed to do less, so I am," Jack told him.

"Co-owning a club is not less," Logan argued. "It's more."

He wanted to launch into a rant about how Jack was always helping everyone. How Jack just couldn't let anyone down- but it was the other man's birthday, so Logan bit his tongue.

"Whatever, a date on the beach then. I can do that."

"It's not any more than I do now. I'm just babysitting the bouncers. And maybe bartending. Hey...I'll give you free drinks," Jack grinned. It wasn't like it mattered, though. Being part of the building crew, Logan would drink for free anyway.
