It had been over twenty-four hours since Logan's accident, and he was still struggling to remember things. Yes, there were moments where the fog seemed to clear, and sure there were names and faces that were slowly coming back to him- but it seemed like some of the most important people and events from his life were simply gone. ...Erased, as if ( Read more... )

There's nothing formal about what we're doing. No frilly decorations. No fancy food. No formal attire or endless rehearsals and planning. We're sorta just winging it, which feels more natural than anything else we could possibly do.

Still, I pick out a nice shirt to wear that day, and take the time to iron it in the compound while I've got the time, hoping it'll look at least halfway decent when Saturday rolls around.

It seems stupid to hang it up in the suit bag the box gave me, but I do it anyway, a pair of nice shoes dangling from one hand and the bag thrown over the other shoulder. I feel all accomplished and shit, I'm not expecting there to be anyone sitting there right in my path, and by some miracle I keep from tripping over the guy on my way out the door.

It's Logan. Of course it is. But he looks even worse than usual. When he glances up at me, there's something not right in his eyes. Something I can't put my finger on.

"Uh... hey?"

Logan Looked up, and then moved out of the other man's way, studying him with curious eyes. He felt that familiar nagging feeling, like he should know this person, but again he found himself coming up short. It still felt as if part of his mind was simply locked up tight, keeping him just out of reach of what he wanted to know.

"Hi," he replied, aware of the fact that he'd clearly been recognized, and wondering if he should simply fake it. If maybe he should simply smile and pretend he knew exactly who this was. Except pretending wouldn't make it true, and Logan knew it.

"I'm sorry, do we know each other?" he asked scratching the back of his neck nervously.

There's a moment where all I can do is stare, slack-jawed and utterly confused, and then I bark out a laugh, like he just made a hilarious joke. "Oh, yeah, very funny, man. Cut it out."

Then it dawns on me, what if this is a different one. Not a clone, I'd be able to tell the difference there, but a different Logan. Jesus.

"I'm not being funny, I- It's a thing. I'm sorry, I don't remember you- don't remember a lot of people. ...I'm working on it though," Logan explained, looking more than a little awkward and uncomfortable.

Scotty had heard about the accident and was actually in the kitchen making some food to take over to them -- red velvet cupcakes, his favorites, and they even turned out tasting like they should, though he had to make some ingredient compromises. He steps out with the plate when he spots Logan. He glances around, half expecting to see Jack, as he stops and smiles, a touch uneasily.

"Hey there," he greets, talking gently because he doesn't know what sort of a condition he's in. "I heard about what happened." It's extraordinarily weird to reintroduce himself to Logan since he was just at his wedding not too long ago. He sits down on the steps, putting the platter between them. "I'm Scotty, one of your neighbors. I was just about to bring these to you." He pulls the cover back on the platter. "Red velvet."

Logan stared at the cupcakes for a long moment, wondering, silently, if he even liked cupcakes.

There was really only one way to find out...

"Thanks," he said quietly, taking a bite and licking a little icing from his lips. "If Jack sent you to get me, you can tell him I'm not going back there. I'm not staying in that hut," he said firmly, though the look he gave Scotty wasn't angry- it was nervous.

He raises his eyebrows and he thinks back to their wedding, all that stuff about how violent they are to each other... What if Logan lost his memory and realized what he had with Jack was unhealthy? But Scotty's seen Jack; he looks broken, totally devastated over Logan's amnesia, and Scotty can't imagine that he would be violent to Logan now.

"Jack didn't send me here. No one's going to make you go there if you don't want to," he starts gently, attempting to reassure Logan's nerves first. "Why don't you want to go back there?"

"I found something," Logan replied softly. "I found a lot of things, actually. I found rope and- And House was telling me that he had to treat me for rope burn not that long ago. And Jack- he's so nice to me, too nice. I learned a long time ago that the kind of people who can charm you are usually the ones you should worry about."

Kate felt like she had dealt rather well with accidentally barging in on Brooke's little 'private' time and apparently just resting for an hour without having to watch Sam bump off walls did wonders. It's definitely time to find Jack, though, and with that determined thought she's hauled both she and Sam up to the compound, letting him walk the last bit.

Of course, Sam letting out an uncharacteristically loud yip and throwing himself on someone's unsuspecting feet, is exactly what she should have expected.

"Sorry," she sighs, wondering how many times she's said that just today.

The child was unexpected, and Logan blinked at it for a moment, before looking over at the child's mother.

"It's okay," he replied, looking her over and then returning his attention to the child. "No damage done."

"Yeah, well give him some time," she says, tugging as Sam determinedly clings to the guy's pant-cuffs. "Logan, yeah? I'm Kate. This monster is Sam. He's overly impressed with the fact that he can almost walk," she babbles, prying Sam's tiny fingers off of him.

Logan relaxed a little when she didn't seem to familiar with him, and he nodded a bit as he gently removed the toddler from his legs, lifting him and offering him to his mother.

"Nice to meet you, Kate," he said, offering a smile.

Jack had taken the dogs out for a short run so he wasn't hovering over Logan. As he'd heard many, many times before, Logan didn't want to be taken care of. Except when he did. Now was clearly not one of those times.

When he'd gotten home, Logan was gone and Jack panicked a little as he looked around for the younger man. He started with Bohemia and then spiraled out, finally coming to the compound. When he saw Logan just sitting there, he sighed with relief.

"Hey," he said, coming closer with the same caution he'd had since he'd walked Logan to the clinic. "Did you go to the clinic again? Are you feeling okay?"

Logan looked up the moment he heard Jack's voice, and quickly scrambled to his feet. "Don't come near me," he warned. "I'm not- I'm not going back there. I dunno what I was like before, but I'm not going to live with someone like you. I found that room, Jack. I found it- and I'm never going back there."

Jack stopped in his tracks and his shock was palpable. Logan had clearly not trusted him and there had been a couple times he was almost sure he was afraid of him, but this...this was unexpected.

"That...room," he repeated, then looked away towards Bohemia. It took a second for it to click, then he looked back at Logan.

"I can explain. Logan, please. Listen."

Logan shook his head no, backing up another step. "House told me- about the rope burns. About the trips to the clinic... I don't know how you got me to stay before, nut I am not staying there now- I'm not going back there. I don't care who you say you are."

He looked skittish and nervous- ready to strike if Jack got too close, and he pulled the sleeves of his shirt down over his fingers, the feeling familiar- as if he'd done it a thousand times before.

Saffron had no idea whether or not Logan remembered her, and knowing him she wasn't sure what kind of reaction she'd get if she threw her arms around him and he didn't. So she settled for sitting down next to him, tentative smile on her face. "Hey, sugar."

She was really beautiful, all red hair and curves. And she looked worried, like she knew what had happened, and he wondered if he could trust her- or if she was simply softening him up so she could take him back to Jack.

"I don't know who you are, but if you're trying to take me back to Jack, don't waste your time," he said quietly. "You can't make me go back there.

"I don't think anyone could make you do something you didn't want to do, Logan," Saffron replied softly. She wanted to put her arms around him, take his hand at least, but she didn't want to push him away. "And I wouldn't want to try."

She paused, inhaled and exhaled slowly. "I don't know why you don't think you can trust Jack, and this may not mean anything to you right now, but you can trust him. You don't remember it, but you do trust him. I trust him too, and I don't trust anyone."

"I just- I get this weird feeling when I'm with him- like a feeling I don't get when I'm around anyone else..." Logan replied. "I don't think I like it."
