It had been over twenty-four hours since Logan's accident, and he was still struggling to remember things. Yes, there were moments where the fog seemed to clear, and sure there were names and faces that were slowly coming back to him- but it seemed like some of the most important people and events from his life were simply gone. ...Erased, as if ( Read more... )

Jack had taken the dogs out for a short run so he wasn't hovering over Logan. As he'd heard many, many times before, Logan didn't want to be taken care of. Except when he did. Now was clearly not one of those times.

When he'd gotten home, Logan was gone and Jack panicked a little as he looked around for the younger man. He started with Bohemia and then spiraled out, finally coming to the compound. When he saw Logan just sitting there, he sighed with relief.

"Hey," he said, coming closer with the same caution he'd had since he'd walked Logan to the clinic. "Did you go to the clinic again? Are you feeling okay?"

Logan looked up the moment he heard Jack's voice, and quickly scrambled to his feet. "Don't come near me," he warned. "I'm not- I'm not going back there. I dunno what I was like before, but I'm not going to live with someone like you. I found that room, Jack. I found it- and I'm never going back there."

Jack stopped in his tracks and his shock was palpable. Logan had clearly not trusted him and there had been a couple times he was almost sure he was afraid of him, but this...this was unexpected.

"That...room," he repeated, then looked away towards Bohemia. It took a second for it to click, then he looked back at Logan.

"I can explain. Logan, please. Listen."

Logan shook his head no, backing up another step. "House told me- about the rope burns. About the trips to the clinic... I don't know how you got me to stay before, nut I am not staying there now- I'm not going back there. I don't care who you say you are."

He looked skittish and nervous- ready to strike if Jack got too close, and he pulled the sleeves of his shirt down over his fingers, the feeling familiar- as if he'd done it a thousand times before.

"House told you what?" he said, brows drawing together in confusion and concern. He wondered what else House had said. Probably nothing outright untrue, but the way Logan was acting...who knew.

"Did he bother to mention he's my ex and he hates you because I'm with you?" he asked without thinking. He shook his head and held up his hands in surrender.

"I never 'got' you to stay, Logan. I've never had to convince you of anything. You've had to convince me."

"If I wanted to stay- why did you have to tie me up?" Logan hissed, finding something familiar in the anger he felt. "Why did I have rope burns? Why is there a broken cage in our home? ...Fuck, why is their a cage in there at all? And don't tell me it's for the dogs, I saw the rest of that room, Jack, it had nothing to do with pet care. You want me to trust you? Tell me everything. Now."

"You had rope burns for the same reason I get them," Jack said quietly. "Look, do you really want to do this right here? On any normal day you wouldn't want this sort of thing broadcast where just everybody can hear. I know you've forgotten nearly everything..." He was trying to be delicate, he was. But the fact that he didn't care who knew what about his sex life made his discretion awkward.

"We have an active and...innovative sex life, Logan. And it doesn't go just one way."

Logan narrowed his eyes slightly, Watching Jack closely and trying to decide if he was lying.

"I'll go somewhere with you," he decided after a long pause. "Somewhere private- just to talk, but I'm not going back to that hut, not until I remember something. ...Take me somewhere that I might remember. Somewhere that'll prove you're not lying. If I can remember something- I'll go home with you."

"I'll go anywhere you want if it'll help you get your memory back," Jack agreed. Every time Logan spoke and every look he gave Jack just tore him apart a little more. Logan didn't trust him, that was obvious. The one person who Jack had opened up to the most and now Logan didn't know him- didn't trust him. Didn't love him at all. This was a nightmare.

"How about the Hamlet? We can go back to your old hut and talk on the way. If you feel up to walking," he suggested.

"Alright," Logan agreed simply, pausing as he remembered something. Nothing big, just a hint of a memory. Something in the way Jack looked at him- it hurt, and Logan hesitated before tentatively reaching for the other man's hand- Taking it before he could question why he felt the urge to do it.

Jack looked down at their hands and then met Logan's eyes. He smiled, just a little, and nodded.

"Okay," he said, the jerked his head toward the path. "It's this way. You lived there for a long time. I used to stay with you a lot. I had a...room mate...so it was easier to stay at your hut. But when he vanished, you started staying with me. And when you agreed to move in, you suggested building on an extra room. For working on your surfboards. And for games. You call them games. I know it's probably weird to hear about. Most of it doesn't even have to do with sex. It's about trust. You trust me. I know you don't remember...but you trust me. And I trust you more than anyone else in my whole life."

"Games," Logan repeated, something familiar in the way Jack worded it. "So they aren't violent?" he asked, looking down at their joined hands.

"They can be. Sometimes," Jack admitted, not about to start lying to Logan now. "Sometimes you get frustrated and punch me, but that hasn't happened in a while. You asked about the rope burns. That doesn't usually happen, just so you know. It gets rough, but it's not usually violent. There's no anger in that room." Or there wasn't supposed to be. Sometimes things got out of hand, but on the whole it was just as Jack had said. Just games.

Logan nodded, something coming back to him as he let go of Jack's hand and caught his wrist instead.

He held on tightly, and then let go, looking down at his own as if he was remembering something important.

"Neptune," he said quietly, muttering the word to himself. Neptune- it was more than just his home, it meant something, and he looked at Jack as if the other man might know.

"That's where you're from," Jack said, then caught the look in Logan's eye. "We went there, sort of. This island is great about playing tricks and not long ago we...well, shared a dream, I guess. I'm not sure how to explain it. That's as good as any. We went to Neptune. Do you remember what happened?"

Logan closed his eyes, and did his best to relax as he thought.

"I remember- I remember you," he said quietly. "You were... You were tied up. And then... You killed them. All of them. I watched you stand right over one and..."

And he hadn't minded. All he'd wanted was to get out of there.

"We were going to Canada."
