It had been over twenty-four hours since Logan's accident, and he was still struggling to remember things. Yes, there were moments where the fog seemed to clear, and sure there were names and faces that were slowly coming back to him- but it seemed like some of the most important people and events from his life were simply gone. ...Erased, as if ( Read more... )

Kate felt like she had dealt rather well with accidentally barging in on Brooke's little 'private' time and apparently just resting for an hour without having to watch Sam bump off walls did wonders. It's definitely time to find Jack, though, and with that determined thought she's hauled both she and Sam up to the compound, letting him walk the last bit.

Of course, Sam letting out an uncharacteristically loud yip and throwing himself on someone's unsuspecting feet, is exactly what she should have expected.

"Sorry," she sighs, wondering how many times she's said that just today.

The child was unexpected, and Logan blinked at it for a moment, before looking over at the child's mother.

"It's okay," he replied, looking her over and then returning his attention to the child. "No damage done."

"Yeah, well give him some time," she says, tugging as Sam determinedly clings to the guy's pant-cuffs. "Logan, yeah? I'm Kate. This monster is Sam. He's overly impressed with the fact that he can almost walk," she babbles, prying Sam's tiny fingers off of him.

Logan relaxed a little when she didn't seem to familiar with him, and he nodded a bit as he gently removed the toddler from his legs, lifting him and offering him to his mother.

"Nice to meet you, Kate," he said, offering a smile.

"It's kind of weird that we've never actually met. Sorry about that. I guess we should with the play and everything." She knows of Logan, of course, but mostly because it seems like she keeps hearing things about shootings and marriages and the like. "Do you mind?" she asks, gesturing to the step. "If I take him inside without burning off some energy he's going to get trampled in there."

"Wait, we're in a play?" Logan asked, moving over so she could join him. "Like, on a stage?"

"Uh...yes?" she answers, wondering if he's drunk. Or something. She puts Sam down and watches him walk in unsteady circles before raising an eyebrow at Logan. "The play you just auditioned for? Mid-Summer?"

Maybe he's screwing with her.

"Oh, right... that play," Logan said awkwardly, frowning a little as he tried to remember auditioning. Strangely enough, the lines where clear in his head, and though he couldn't recall his audition, he could remember the part. "...I'm playing the wall. I mean, the guy who plays the wall- I remember that. I remember... I remember that, but not much else. How crazy is that? I can remember a part in a play, but I can't remember getting married."

He paused, realizing how crazy he must have sounded, and nervously pushed his hair back. "See, uh, I hit my head the other day. Doc says I just have to wait and see what happens. Like, uh, if I'll remember stuff."

Kate tries to school her face into something other than incredulity, but it's hard. She swears to God she heard that exact line on a soap she tried out for, once. "Huh," she says, after a long pause. "If you hit your head that hard, shouldn't you be in the hospital? I mean, isn't that a fairly serious head injury."

Also, Kate kind of thought he already was married, but maybe she's not remembering right. She doesn't actually know him.

"I was in the clinic, House gave me- uh... pills. Something to make the swelling go down. He said I could go home as long as I stayed with Jack. He said I might start to remember things when my head gets better... And I have. Not a lot, but I've started to remember some stuff. Like my friends back home, I remember them. And my favorite food. Yesterday I couldn't remember, but today I can."

Except Logan obviously wasn't staying with Jack, and though his memory was returning as the swelling went down, he still felt cloudy and struggled to recall some of the most important events in his life.

Yeah, okay the Jack thing sounds familiar. She thinks. New husband. That guy that everyone hooks up with. "Okay, well, where's Jack? Seems like someone should actually be looking after you. What if you have brain bleeding or something? Do you want me to go find him?"

Sam continues his march, unimpressed with the adult drama.

"I'm not going back to Jack's. I'm waiting for House. -I feel fine though, honest. I mean, my head still hurts, but it's like a bad headache. It feels better than yesterday," Logan replied, watching the little boy before looking over at Kate.

"You think I'm crazy," he said, laughing a little and ducking his head. "It's okay, I'd think I was crazy too if I was you."

"Nah, I don't think you're crazy," she assures him. "I think you have shitty luck or something, though." She's almost 80% he got shot a few months back. At least, she thinks it was him. Hard to keep track, sometimes. "But don't you live there? With him? Since you're married?"

Also, she knows who House is. He's scary.

"I think I've always had bad luck," Logan told her. "Long before I got here- it was one thing after another."

Like his mother committing suicide, Lilly's murder, Aaron's anger- it was all still there in his mind, and he frowned slightly as he shook off the memory and returned his attention to Kate.

"I left. It's a long story, but I don't think I'm safe with Jack. ...I think maybe I'm safer with House."

Jesus. Kate's terrified of House. For no actual reason other than he seems scary. So Jack must be secretly terrifying in some way previously unknown to mankind. "Well, okay. Yeah, don't do that. Did he hit you? Is that why you're...like this?" she finishes, dropping to a whisper.

"No. I mean, I don't think so. Jack says I hit my head on a rock while I was surfing. I nearly drowned," Logan replied. "I surf everyday," he added, aware of that fact.
