The sparkling [ocean], the bracing air...

Aeneas had been pacing around the hut anxiously which could only mean one of two things. Either the puppy needed to go to the bathroom or he wanted to go for a walk. Whichever it was, someone had to take him out and this time, it was Anatoly's turn. Not that it was a horrible hardship - on the contrary, he'd been contemplating taking a break ( Read more... )

Scotty gets enough time in the water, it seems, in his swimming class, but he doesn't often appreciate just laying out on the beach as much as he should. Sure, he feels a little idle, but sometimes you need to let your mind bake in the sun a little. Aside from the skin cancer, it's good for you.

It also lets you see such adorable sights as Anatoly the Russian rolling around with the cutest little puppy Scotty's ever seen in his life. From his spot on his towel, he sits up Indian style, watching the festivities.

"Was that your idea or his?"

"I think it was his but don't hold me to that," Anatoly called out, then was immediately pounced by Aeneas. Once he managed to disentangle himself, he headed over to where Scotty say, sitting down a few feet from him.

"Either way, I think we all had fun."

"I can see that." He holds his hand out for Aeneas to sniff, hoping the little dog will approve of him. He's got his eye on one of the kittens in Bohemia, but he wouldn't mind a puppy sometime, either. Really, all this self-sufficiency and lack-of-debt is going to Scotty's head.

"What's his name?"

Aeneas curiously sniffed Scotty's hand. Deciding that he approved, he gave it a few licks then tried to climb onto his lap, eager for more affection from his new friend.

"Aeneas," Anatoly answered, shaking his head fondly at the puppy's enthusiasm. "Feel free to shoo him if you don't want him crawling over you. He's a little too friendly at times."

When Anatoly had left to take Aeneas on his walk, Lex had been working on a new lesson plan for his class. Yes he'd taught the class before but he still wanted to keep it different and interesting, at least for himself to teach. And through the research he was doing, he was finding out things he'd never known about the Greek and Roman cultures.

Lex hadn't been looking for where Anatoly and Aeneas had gone; in fact he'd been heading to the Compound to return some books and hopefully get some new ones. But when he did find them, he could help but stop and watch, his fond expression practically beaming as he watched the two creatures he loved most on the island playing in the sand.

It was Aeneas who caught sight of Lex first, and with a great enthusiastic series of barks, he rushed over to greet him, stepping on Anatoly in the process.

For his part, Anatoly looked up with a smile, shading his eyes against the sun. "Come to join us, Lex?"

With a chuckle, Lex dropped his books onto the sand so he could catch the flying puppy, holding the sandy mess of wiggling canine away from him. "First paint and now sand. I think this is becoming a habit hmmm?" He said to the puppy, who strained forward in an attempt to lick Lex's nose.

Then he turned to raise an eyebrow at Anatoly. "Should you really be encouraging this behavior?" He asked, avoiding the topic of him joining them.

"He's still a puppy, Lex." Anatoly shook his head, entirely too amused at Lex's fastidiousness. "He'll do this sort of thing whether or not I encourage him."

He finally stood and made his way over to them and knelt before Lex, his pants squelching loudly. Mischievously, he nudged Aeneas aside so he could give Lex a long, rather salty kiss. "I think you should take off your shoes and play in the waves with me and Aeneas."

Sally had to curse some god in the sky. It had to be karma or something fatefully terrible like luck that would have an absolutely gorgeous man drenched and utterly at the mercy of a wonderful thing like water. Of course, said man was also as gay as a jungle filled with nitrous oxide. Lovely, just lovely.

She arched her brow as she came across the dog first, glancing past it to the master. "You should tell him it's not polite to look so good in public," she remarked, half-teasingly and half-serious.

At the familiar voice, Anatoly looked up. Spotting Sally, he waved then immediately caught hold of Aeneas before he could give her the enthusiastic greeting he reserved for new people.

He laughed softly and asked, "Me or the puppy? I'm not sure the sand is doing anything for me."

"You," she said, somewhat accusing because taken men weren't allowed to keep on looking good. No, they were supposed to do the sensible thing and inflate. It was just right of them. "It's not so much the sand as it is the water. And the running. You're far too attractive." And it sounded more like insult than compliment.

"Far too attractive?" Anatoly shook his head, not quite believing her but knowing far better then to argue. Such discussions with beautiful strong-willed women never ended well, even if he had the best of intentions. "Even when I'm covered with sand? I always knew you were an extraordinary woman and now I have proof."

"What's this?" Aly asked, walking along the beach to greet them. Laughing, she knelt down to Aeneas to rub the top of his head, "You wouldn't be stealing my favorite chess partner now would you Aeneas?" She looked up at Anatoly, her eyes bright and her nose crinkling with her smile. "If he's stealing you away, I shall be very cross, Anatoly!"

Anatoly grinned at Aly. "It's not so much me that he likes to steal away as the chess pieces. I liberated two pawns and a knight from him this morning."

Aeneas, for his part, barked happily at the attention he was getting and tried to leap on her in the hopes of getting even more.

Aly's expression was one of horror. "The chess pieces!? I'm not sure which is worse. You, for the lost company, or the chess pieces." Her grin curled up, even as she accepted Aeneas into her arms, laughing. "Well I suppose chess players can be replaced, though I would be sore to lose you."

"Oh, you won't get rid of me so soon," Anatoly promised. "We have many games left to play. I'll make you a grandmaster yet!"
