Seeing the baby a week before had really made things real for Ellie. It was one thing to know she was there, but it was another to have a picture. At the very least, she was put at ease seeing everything was progressing normally. "Baaaaaaaaaby clothes!" Barney cooed out before he could stop himself when he saw the teeny tiny shirt in Ellie's hands.

Then, catching himself, he coughed and continued in a relatively normal tone of voice. "I mean, look at that shirt. It's just like a shirt for a regular humor but itsy bitsy little."

That kind of response was the last thing Ellie imagined would come out of Barney. She actually paused to look at him, just barely managing to hide her surprised look.

"Yes, that's what baby clothes usually are," she replied, eyebrow raising. She put aside what she'd been holding - the shirt really wasn't anything she'd want a child of hers wearing. "I figured there's no harm starting early to look for these things."

When it came to real babies, Barney generally found them to be off-putting little creatures not dissimilar to how he viewed clever lizards. But somehow clothes and baby items reduced him to acting like a 30-something single woman whose biological clock was near zero.

Which is to say crazy-eyed.

"Let's hope so," she replied, wryly. With the lack of any options but normal childbirth, she knew it was going to be an interesting experience. Unable to suppress a smile, she added, "I didn't know you liked babies so much."
