[a my name is alice...]

It's a nice day.

A kind of lovely day in fact. Complete shine, no rain and only a few puffy white clouds to disturb them. These days are more common than uncommon and it's almost worrying (they're going to run out of sunblock one of these days) but after a nasty case of sun poisoning Alice is doing fine.

More than fine, she's splendidStanding ( Read more... )

"Barrels. Boatloads. Bundles." The alliteration rolls off Alice's tongue, along with a grin from ear to ear. It doesn't hurt to play like she's a kid, especially when it's not hurting anyone. "A little skipping rope, hop hop hop."

"Isn't that how it always goes?" Life had that pesky little tendency to go flying by. Even when Alice could live for ever and had all the time in the world, she had managed to miss a lot of little things in her eagerness to get the big things done. This was like a breather. "Blink and then it's all gone."

Holding out the jump rope, she nods helpfully. "Wanna try it?"

"Hello, Alice," Cable greeted her with a slightly amused smile. "Training for a big boxing match?"

"No," Alice shakes her head as she stands up. "Wouldn't that be a sight though? Running up and down steps like Rocky?"

"I used to be a trainer. I can shout abuse at you if you need motivation," he offered, "Get you in the spirit of things."

"Then I would win at laser tag for certain!" She jabs the air with her fist, taking a swing at an imaginary assailant. There are no opponents and she's not exactly out of shape, but who knows what could be next?

"You know, you're really ruining the whole vampire mystique when you do things that," I say, offering her hand to help her get back on her feet.

"Aren't I just?" Alice laughs as she reaches up to take Kate's hand, using her free hand to coil up the jump rope. It twists a little like a lime coloured snake, but it's relatively harmless. "Ah, well, I can't be brooding all the time."

I can't even imagine Alice brooding some of the time, so I can only nod in agreement as I pull her up. "Where'd you get a jump rope, anyway? Games closet?"

Brooding had been more of Edward's thing than hers. Even when she had been upset, she'd been more of the mind to get up and do something about it rather than think about it. Her ability had helped with that. "Yep," she nods. "The games closet. That's where I got the hula hoop too."

"Oh! Are you all right over there?" Felix called in agitation when he saw the girl fall. Of course, she was laughing as she did it, which relieved a lot of the urgency of the situation, but it was better to err on the side of caution. Jumping rope could be more hazardous than it seemed, and she could have been in hysterics, for all he knew.

"Yes sirree, I am just right as rain." Alice grins absolutely sincere in her affirmation. Dusting herself off as she stands once more she looks down at her knees, checking for wayward scrapes. One never did know. "Thanks for asking though."

"Not a problem, my dear, that you're alright is the main thing here," Felix said once he was satisfied that she was well and truly fine. "I'm sorry for interrupting, you did seem to be having a very good time of things."

"Oh, it's no bother darling." Dismissing his apology with a wave her hand, she drops the rope in a well ordered bundle in favour of the hulahoop. "I managed to interrupt myself."

Ainsley had seen a lot of strange people in her life. After all, all you needed to do was walk around the Potomac at the right hour and they'd swarm you, like some kind of underworld-like horror. "I'm sure the doctors are cross-trained in everything the nurses would need to be excellent at," she assured the girl. "Which really would render them obsolete."

Obsolete or not, Alice isn't entire certain if she would want to be without a doctor. Sure she loves Carlisle to bits and pieces, but aren't nurses supposed to be the ones to give you the TLC you need? "I don't think that's really the point," she says, frowning for a quick moment as she gets to her feet. "But then again literalness isn't either."

Ainsley carefully tried to stay near the girl in case she was going to sway out of balance. "No, I didn't think it was," she agreed, with a tiny flush of humiliation to her cheeks. She didn't mean to get literal, but sometimes the opportunity presented itself and it was difficult to escape. "But it's still a rhetorical point that ought to be made. Are you okay?"

Oh, this is just endearing. The woman's accent makes Alice's stomach do a tiny flipflop. It's not Texan and it's not the flat out drawl that her own has a habit of being. Still, there are far too few Southerners here; they're a dying breed.

"It is. Yep, I'm peachy keen. Just a little sore around the lower palms. Thanks for asking."
