It's a nice day.

A kind of lovely day in fact. Complete shine, no rain and only a few puffy white clouds to disturb them. These days are more common than uncommon and it's almost worrying (they're going to run out of sunblock one of these days) but after a nasty case of sun poisoning Alice is doing fine.

More than fine, she's splendidStanding ( Read more... )

"Hello, Alice," Cable greeted her with a slightly amused smile. "Training for a big boxing match?"

"No," Alice shakes her head as she stands up. "Wouldn't that be a sight though? Running up and down steps like Rocky?"

"I used to be a trainer. I can shout abuse at you if you need motivation," he offered, "Get you in the spirit of things."

"Then I would win at laser tag for certain!" She jabs the air with her fist, taking a swing at an imaginary assailant. There are no opponents and she's not exactly out of shape, but who knows what could be next?

"Laser tag, is it?" he asked with a slightly amused smile. "A good cause, then."

"Definitely a good cause. I kind of signed myself up and issued a challenge to the organiser." She's more than a little proud of this fact and definitely feeling competitive about it. A girl has to beat those boys who think they can just walk all over anyone. Games and all. "So I plan to win."

Cable had very mixed feelings about war games. It wasn't exactly that he disapproved of them, he used them himself for training purpose, or even that he resented those who could play games because they had no need to be real soldiers but they weren't what battle was really like and prettified versions of war always left him slightly uncomfortable.

"There's no point in doing anything unless you plan to win," he replied as he took a step closer. "You a crack shot?"

Something a bit darker flashes behind Alice's eyes. All of this talk is tapping into the more primative part of her, playing into her instincts that she had to force into retirement.

Old habits, well they die hard. "I'm a born hunter. Though I have to admit, I'm better without a weapon."

Cable noticed the flash of something more dangerous than he had deemed Alice to be and gave her a curious look.

"Is that so?"

"That is so. Hands on was my policy."

Catching herself, Alice snaps back into place. It doesn't do her any good to be playing with that sort of fire. She's not about to fight tooth-and-nail for survival any time soon. Unless they're about to do something no one warned her of.

"But that doesn't matter now."

"So they tell me," he replied.

"Peace on the Island and laser tag for all men."

"Exactly. To keep the non-needed skills sharp."

It doesn't make sense, but the from the way things looked Barney didn't strike her as much of a war man.
